A former Texas A&M catcher just inked his rookie deal with the New York Yankees after being selected with the 160th pick in the second round of the 2026 MLB Draft.
According to MLB Pipeline senior writer Jim Callis, Bear Harrison signed a $437,000 contract with the Yankees, which amounts to his full slot value at his pick. He began his collegiate career with Saint Mary's before transferring to Texas A&M in 2025. He made an immediate impact for the Aggies, as the program transitioned into the Michael Earley era, starting in 94 total games across two seasons for the Maroon and White.
The 6-foot-3, 230-pound catcher from Danville, California, brings a powerful swing and gritty play behind the plate to the Big Apple, as he begins his professional career in the New York Yankees' system.
Harrison showed much improvement from his sophomore season in 2026 for the Aggies, hitting .297 with 50 runs scored, 35 RBI and 41 walks, while also setting the single-season program record with 23 hit-by-pitches. He also flashed his strength at the plate by mashing 12 home runs, 15 doubles and ending the season on a 32-game on-base streak. Harrison ranked second in the SEC with a .495 on-base percentage, recording 12 multi-hit and eight multi-RBI performances.
He will join his brother Kyle, who currently pitches for the Milwaukee Brewers, in The Show, after being one of eight Texas A&M players selected in the MLB Draft this year. For Earley and company back in College Station, they'll look to continue the rebuilding process after losing many stars like Harrison to the draft.
