Last weekend, Texas A&M coach Michael Earley saw eight of his players from the 2026 roster selected in the 2026 MLB Draft, led by former Maryland transfer infielder Chris Hacopian going 11th overall to the Washington Nationals, while two of the program's top hitters over the last three seasons, Caden Sorrell went in the second round to the Chicago Cubs, while Gavin Gravovac came off the board in the third round, and will join the Los Angeles Angels' organization.
Other notable departures include catcher Bear Harrison and LHP Shane Sdao, who have both signed their contracts, which were slightly below their slot values, while Caden Sorrell's contract details were revealed on Sunday afternoon, as the star slugger has signed for a $1,650,000 deal with the Cubs, which is $162,800 over his $1,487,200 slot value when he was drafted.
Last season, Sorrell slashed 341/.434/.743 with 77 hits and 67 runs scored, and led the Aggies with 76 RBI, 11 stolen bases, and 20 doubles. One of the top MLB Draft prospects, Sorrell was expected to go late in the first or early in the second round, and while the Highland Village (TX) native would have loved to play close to home, the Chicago Cubs provide him a fantastic opportunity to quickly rise in the minor leagues.
Plagued by a hamstring injury that resulted in missing a handful of games during SEC play during the 2025 season, Sorrell's career numbers would be even more impressive, and, paired with Gavin Grahovac staying healthy, the Aggies would have likely made the NCAA Tournament during Michael Earely's inaugural campaign.
