Texas A&M's 2026 baseball season served as coach Michael Earley's second year at the helm, and by all accounts, making the NCAA Tournament after missing the postseason the previous season should be considered a massive success. However, it was a foregone conclusion that Earley would lose his three top hitters, who were selected in the 2026 MLB Draft, which concluded earlier this month.
In the first round, former transfer infielder Chris Hacopian was selected 11th overall by the Washington Nationals, signing for $5.7M, which was $433,500 under his slot value. Hacopian's injury issues last season didn't affect his value, while star outfielder Caden Sorrell, who could have easily gone in the first round, landed with the Chicago Cubs 62nd overall, signing for $1.65M, $162,800 over his slot value.
Third baseman turned first baseman Gavin Grahovac was an absolute steal in the third round, going 81st overall to the Los Angeles Angels, signing for $1.2475M, $229,00 over his slot value. As you can tell, Sorrell and Grahovac were undervalued, while Hacopian barely moved from his pre-draft projections.
Of the seven former Aggie starters drafted, veteran LHP Shane Sdao was selected 120th overall to the New York Mets, signing for $642.6K, followed by starting catcher Bear Harrison hearing his name called 162nd overall by the New York Yankees ($434.7K) while starting RHP Weston Moss lasted until the 11th round, joining Hacopian in Washington ($172.5K) while outfielder Jake Duer went 536th overall, signing for $20K.
Losing Sdao and Moss was expected, and after adding seven pitchers from the transfer portal, the critical return of star closer Clayton Freshcorn gives new pitching coach Barry Enright plenty of veteran talent and young arms to develop in 2027.
