Saying that former All-Pro safety T.J. Ward isn't impressed with New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye would be considered an understatement.
Ward went as far as calling the runner-up for the 2025 NFL MVP award "average."
"I'm talking football, and when I see Drake Maye play football, he looks terrible, especially in the playoffs," Ward said when appearing on Speakeasy. "...He is average. He's an average quarterback. He was average all season. Drake Maye is as average as it gets. How many points did they score in the playoffs? Average. ...Was his numbers astronomical? What did he do to be second in MVP voting? Because he didn't do [expletive] all year. He looked real average."
Both hosts, LeSean McCoy and Emmanuel Acho, vehemently disagreed with Ward's take on Maye. At one point, McCoy challenged Ward to name some of the offensive weapons around Maye in only his second NFL season. Ward got tripped up and admitted that he wasn't great with names.
Even when Acho reminded Ward of Maye's accolades, including throwing for 4,394 yards, 31 touchdowns and posting a league-best 72.0 completion percentage, the former Super Bowl champion still wasn't buying it.
McCoy, who called Ward's argument "silly," responded by saying, "Bet, that's all I needed to know. We won't talk quarterbacks no more."
