Former Steelers quarterback finds new home in NFC North

Teddy Bridgewater retired and left the Detroit Lions with a QB2-sized hole that a former Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback has now likely filled.

According to NFL Network's Mike Garafolo, ex-Steelers quarterback Joshua Dobbs has joined the Lions on a one-year deal, which will mark his second stint in Detroit after he spent time on the team's practice squad in 2022.

The #Lions are signing veteran Josh Dobbs to a one-year, $1.425 million deal with $475k fully guaranteed, sources tell me and @RapSheet.

Dobbs, who was drafted by the Steelers in the fourth round of the 2017 NFL Draft, played in Pittsburgh from 2017 to 2019 and again from 2020 to 2021. He also played for the Jacksonville Jaguars (2019), Cleveland Browns (2022), Tennessee Titans (2022), Arizona Cardinals (2023), Minnesota Vikings (2023), San Francisco 49ers (2024), and New England Patriots (2025).

A literal rocket scientist with a major in aerospace engineering, Dobbs is often regarded as one of the smartest quarterbacks in the league and will no doubt look to bring an edge to Detroit's QB room.
