Former New England Patriots quarterback Josh Dobbs signed a one-year, $1.4 million deal with the Detroit Lions on Sunday, according to NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo, following Teddy Bridgewater’s decision to step away from the team.
Dobbs was with the Patriots in 2025 as the team’s backup quarterback. He helped New England reach the Super Bowl at the end of last season. Dobbs returns to the Lions after previously being with the team in 2022.
The Georgia native was selected by the Pittsburgh Steelers with the No. 135 overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft. He played for the Steelers (2018, 2020), followed by the Tennessee Titans (2022), Arizona Cardinals and Minnesota Vikings (2023) and San Francisco 49ers (2024), before his penultimate stop in the NFL with the Patriots in 2025.
Dobbs will play in a Lions quarterback room in 2026 that is led by Jared Goff and also includes rookie Luke Altmyer. He joins the Lions as the team’s training camp continues.
