Former LSU baseball star Jake Brown is heating up in his first season of professional baseball. The outfielder hit his first career home run on Thursday, crushing a solo shot to right field to tie the game in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Brown plays for the Inland Empire 66ers, Single-A affiliate of the Seattle Mariners. The organization selected him at No. 65 overall in the second round of the 2026 MLB Draft. He started with the rookie team before being promoted on August 2 to Single-A. It didn't take him long to make an impact.
Through his first three games, Brown is batting .222 with two hits, including his first home run, two runs, an RBI and a walk. He'll look to get more plate appearances as the minor league season winds down before heading into his first offseason. The former Tiger recovered from surgery on a broken hamate bone heading into the draft, which cut his final season in Baton Rouge short.
Brown could've gone to the MLB out of high school but stuck by his LSU commitment. He played immediately upon arrival as a true freshman with 21 starts in 56 appearances, turning it on at the plate in the 2024 NCAA Tournament. He only got better a year later when LSU won the national championship, batting .320 over the season and .383 in the College World Series.
