Los Angeles (7-6) defeated Phoenix (4-11), 111-102 in overtime, in the WNBA Commissioner's Cup at Mortgage Matchup Center in Phoenix, Arizona.
Former Tennessee women's basketball player Rae Burrell totaled 24 points, three rebounds, three blocks and one assist in 27 minutes for the Sparks. She converted 9-of-15 field goal attempts, 2-of-4 three-point attempts and 4-of-4 free throw attempts.
Los Angeles guard Kelsey Plum led all scorers with 43 points. Phoenix guard Kahleah Copper also scored 41 points in the contest.
Burrell played at Tennessee from 2018-22. She appeared in 110 games, including 47 starts, and averaged 10.3 points, 4.2 rebounds, 1.3 assists and 22.6 minutes per contest. At Tennessee, Burrell was named to the 2021-22 USA TODAY Preseason All-America Third Team.
She was selected by Los Angeles in the first round of the 2022 WNBA draft (No. 9 overall).
Los Angeles will next play on Monday versus Golden State. Tipoff between the Sparks and the Valkyries is slated for 10 p.m. EDT at Chase Center in San Francisco, California.
