Oklahoma City Thunder guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has been named the 2025-26 NBA MVP. The former Kentucky standout earned the honor for the second consecutive season, becoming just the 14th player in NBA history to win back-to-back MVP awards.

Gilgeous-Alexander continued his dominant run during the 2025-26 season, averaging 31.1 points, 6.6 assists and 4.3 rebounds per game. The season also marked his fourth straight year averaging at least 30 points per game.

The Thunder star helped lead Oklahoma City to a 64-18 regular season and a return to the Western Conference Finals for the second straight season.

Since entering the league, Gilgeous-Alexander has received many accolades. Along with his two MVP awards, he is a four-time NBA All-Star, three-time First Team All-NBA selection and captured the league scoring title in 2025.

Prior to the NBA, Gilgeous-Alexander spent the 2017-18 season at Kentucky. During his freshman season, he earned Second Team All-SEC honors, was named to the SEC All-Freshman Team and won SEC Tournament MVP honors while helping lead the Wildcats to the NCAA Tournament.

Gilgeous-Alexander was selected 11th overall by the Charlotte Hornets in the 2018 NBA Draft before being traded to the Los Angeles Clippers and eventually Oklahoma City.

The Thunder face the San Antonio Spurs in the Western Conference Finals with a trip to the NBA Finals on the line. Game 1 is set for 8:30 p.m. ET on Monday, May 18, in Oklahoma City.
