While he was with the Kentucky Wildcats, it was obvious that guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander was a talented player destined to be a very good NBA player. So it was no surprise when he was selected with the 11th overall pick in the 2018 NBA Draft. The heights his career have soared to, though, may not have been predicted by many.

The 2025-26 season was similar to the previous season for Gilgeous-Alexander. He averaged 31.1 points, 4.3 rebounds, and a career-high 6.6 assists per game, which was very close to last year's numbers. The Oklahoma City Thunder are also on a path towards a second straight NBA Championship. For these reasons, he has also been named NBA MVP for the second straight year, according to Shams Charania of ESPN.

A second consecutive MVP award is something only 13 other players in league history have won. He joins all-time greats like Michael Jordan, Larry Bird, Lebron James, and Bill Russell in that category.

The NBA will officially announce the winner on Sunday evening, though the cat is out of the bag. The other finalists were Nikola Jokic of the Denver Nuggets and Victor Wembanyama of the San Antonio Spurs. Congratulations to Gilgeous-Alexander on another great season.
