Even though the Oklahoma City Thunder didn't go back-to-back, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander added more to his all-time resume. Coming away with a second consecutive MVP trophy, he was nominated for the ESPY's 2026 NBA Player of the Year award.
The other nominees are Nikola Jokic, Victor Wembanyama and Jalen Brunson. The annual award show will take place on Wednesday, July 15. Of course, Gilgeous-Alexander, Jokic and Wembanyama were the three MVP finalists as well. Meanwhile, Brunson led the New York Knicks to a surprising NBA championship run.
Will be interesting to see if Gilgeous-Alexander wins his second consecutive ESPY award after last summer's NBA championship run. He averaged 31.1 points on 55.3% shooting, 6.6 assists and 4.3 rebounds in 68 games this past season. The Thunder had an NBA-best 64-18 regular-season record despite constant injuries.
Either way, Gilgeous-Alexander has cemented himself as an all-time great. Right now, we're seeing the peak of his powers. As long as he's hooping, the Thunder will remain smack-dab in the middle of the title conversation for the foreseeable future.
