Earlier this offseason, the Denver Broncos made headlines when they acquired former Alabama Crimson Tide wide receiver Jaylen Waddle via a trade from the Miami Dolphins.
A first round pick back in 2021, Waddle spent the first five seasons of his NFL career in Miami where he was paired with former Alabama quarterback Tua Tagovailoa. There, Waddle started all 78 games that he played in from 2021-25, racking up 373 receptions for 5,039 yards and 26 touchdowns with a trio of 1,000-yard seasons during his first three years in the league.
With this latest move, Waddle now heads across the country to the AFC West where he will join a Broncos team that is expected to be a Super Bowl contender in 2026. Denver reached the AFC Championship Game a year ago, and in 2026, sport a loaded roster that is headlined by former star Alabama cornerback Pat Surtain II.
Waddle will also be paired with an exciting offense in Denver led by quarterback Bo Nix, leading many to believe that the former Alabama wide receiver will make a significant impact this fall, one of which is ESPN's Matt Bowen. Bowen recently released his most impactful moves of the NFL offseason, ranking Denver's trade for Waddle at No. 9.
The former Alabama wideout will be a candidate to lead Denver in receiving this upcoming season, likely competing with Courtland Sutton to do so. Waddle should also be a top target for Nix, and could potentially be set for his first 1,000-yard season since 2023.
Denver is set to open the 2026 season in Kansas City on Monday, Sept. 14, against the Chiefs. That game is set for 8:15 p.m. ET on both ABC and ESPN.
