I’ve been touting Rasheed Walker as a free agent the Cards should chase. However, I intended to move Johnson back to RT as part of that alignment. Johnson’s recent contract comments would seem to make that switch impossible. Therefore I’m suggesting a different, riskier target. The Colts seem ready to move on from RT Braden Smith. A talented player, but one who’s missed multiple games in the 23 & 24 seasons. I know Williams injury history has caused chaos for the Cards the last 2 seasons. However, Smith has been healthy this year. Taking this gamble would set up the draft for the Cards to address their QB situation with a top pick as well as having the freedom to acquire IOL & WR help in the draft. Lindebaum would be a great option at Center, but this draft has a deep Center pool with decent options in later rounds.

There are several options at RT. The only thing you probably want to avoid is going into the draft with a hole at RT.
i think you have to add a high(er) dollar FA at RT prior to the draft

the 2nd round is filled with college tackles who could play Tackle, but have arm length more like guards. You can take one of them and worse case is you have a good guard.

I am hoping we select an OL in the first round. However, I have read that both Mauigoa and Fano are better prospects at guard. Anyway, we need 3 new OL if the off season. That will be very difficult to accomplish in the off season, along with our other needs. There is a chance that Adams may turn into a starter. Not a good chance, but a chance. We will have to see how he plays the rest of this year.

Buy a RT, Draft a Guard in second, Draft QB in 1st, Fire Petzig and his staff
it all depends on where the Cardinals draft and who is on the board. Fano/Mauigoa make a lot of sense until Ty Simpson is on the board.

It's why a two year deal for a guy like Jack Conklin isn't a terrible plan as long as you get a talented young player to compete with him.

Yep, everything starts with if there's a QB on the board that we like and can get.

I'm not for taking a RT with a top 10 pick. The positional value just isn't there. I said the same when people thought Paris was going to stay at RT.
I know people are going to say Sewell and Lane Johson are RT's. Sewell is the best RT, but he'll probably move to LT shortly one they move on from Taylor Decker(he might retire).

Johson was used at LT but couldn't cut so was moved to RT.

there just isnt a Lane Johnson or Penei Sewell in this draft either

a bunch of pretty good prospects at tackle, but no great ones

if the team is dead set in taking an OT, then trade down

Meh...I think you focus taking top players at premium positions. Especially because you never know how things will play out. Joe Alt was taken to play RT. OT, either side, is a premium position. I am open to having the "we have two OTs who deserve to make over 20 mil per year" problem.

For me, positional value is more about the 5th year option and low cost positions. S. ILB. IOL. RB. It's just easier to pay for those positions in FA if you can.

The Rams are going to be tested with that when Caleb Downs is on the board.

That is what people were saying when McBride was selected in the 2nd round. Who thinks that now?

Defenses move pass rushers to both sides, so you need 2 good tackles. The longer I watch football the more importance I put on the offensive and defensive lines. A good line makes everyone's job behind them easier. A bad line makes everyone's job more difficult.

You could move down a little and grab an extra 3rd if you want a RT

With the cap space we should be reclaiming by cutting Nichols, jones, Conner, and SMB - somewhere in the ballpark of 30mil- we should have the money to pursue the best free agent tackle on the game.

Will the best tackle in the game want to play for this sad sack org? Am always surprised that people appear to assume its simply as easy as having cap space. Not that you did, but only if it were that easy...

It’s not so much that as there are teams with scads cap space going into next year. Cards have to outbid and out recruit someone.

Especially if it’s a second vs third contract.

Maybe. I feel like there is a clear gap between Mauigoa/Fano and the field. I wouldn't play that game.

It's likely going to be a debate between Woods, Bailey, Fano, and Mauigoa. If the thought is these OTs are overrated, and Bailey and Woods are off the board, then you are stuck between taking Downs/Love or just trading back for Kayden McDonald

Yeah. That's why if you want to talk about Linderbaum, you have to talk about making him the highest paid C in the league , and it still might not be enough.
