Can tackles generally play guard at least a decent level?
Usually...guys can move in but not out..it's due to foot speed and arm length mostly...if a guy is already playing guard in college it's because he has shorter arms...but lots of tackles get drafted and moved inside...it's why tackles have higher draft value.
Draft a guy to play LT...he fails...
Move him to RT....he still struggles...
Move him inside to guard...

So you get more chances to get a decent player...
Draft a guy to play RG...he fails...dude rides the practice squad until he gets cut. No place else to go.
Tackles are generally more athletic and versatile.

Even if we go FA plus draft...play the rookie at RG a couple years and bump him back outside when the vets contract expires...playing inside can allow him to develop slower while he adapts to the pro game.
But dude has to be strong. We have some beastly DT's in the NFCWest

Some tackles are more agile than strong, so moving inside doesn’t always work. Humphries is a good example. However, they can often move inside. If you’re thinking that way try to pick guys who seem versatile. The other problem is tackles make a lot more money, so they don’t like that move.

Unlikely to do both unless we trade away next year's 1st as well. Since we are perpetually bad, I don't think I'd ever trade our 1st away straight up.
to get Mendoza I would trade our 2027 first in a heartbeat.
we aint far away...a couple linemen...another RB..and we are primed for a rookie QB...the defense didnt live up to their talent this year. But Nolen looks like the real deal...and Robinson is developing...right in line with the three year average....with the youth in our secondary...one decent ILB can make a huge difference for the D... but we need "The Guy"
and IMHO....Mendoza is Peyton Manning 2.0....He "is" The Guy

i wanted the right guard tyler booker last year - he was supposed to be there when we picked but dallas snatched him at #12 allowing nolen to slip to us - booker started against us in dallas

the first right tackle came off the board with pick #7 so if i was us i'd start slovik and lose out

Peyton Manning?!?!? Mendoza isn't even as good of a prospect as Cam Ward was! He's a great college QB, and Indiana is a great story, so I get your enthusiasm. I would be content to roll the dice on him. But man, Manning was an all time prospect coming out.

Nolen can’t stay on the field so far.

Won’t be enough. Plus the cap would be hard to workout.

I think he’s better at ball placement than Ward. Neither is as potentially as good as Manning. I could live with Mendoza but no chance the Cards could get him
