Stop bumping this stuff. Seriously.

I think it's good to bump this sort of thing now. Look at the lunacy in this thread and how profoundly wrong people were. It's helpful to keep in mind because we are, and will, see many threads this offseason just as crazy and just as wrong.

Personally, I think everyone trying to throw Boldin under the bus now are just as crazy as those who were trashing Fitz a year ago.

The Boldin contract situation is the different than the Fitz contract situation. Fitzgerald was making an extremely high contract ($16.5mil) and the FO was trying to lower it, and Fitz wanted to stay with the Cardinals all along. Boldin wants a higher contract and is getting paid relatively low money for the amount of output and doesn't want to remain with the team.

I am not sure I agree on Boldin per se, but the over reaction is certainly identical. It is always amazing how little "sports nuts" actually know.

I think its fun to see how people flip/flop on players. There was actual hatred directed towards Fitzgerald for renegotiating a contract the team offered him. He didn't HAVE to do it, the team needed him to do it. He never demanded a trade, never threatened to hold out..people on here just saw the size of the contract and hated him for it.

Some of the same people who wanted to trade Fitz now love him and want to trade Q.

Completely disagree.

If you had told me last year that the Cards make the SB, Fitz would be the best WR in the league, and is making the case for maybe being the sickest receiver in the history of the NFL, I might have asked the Cards mods to suspend you for trolling.

I think it is fun to be reminded of old opinions. I would have been 100% off base myself.

That is the intention.

Oh I know.

That being said, I think we were hasty on our judgement of Fitz. I disagree about his impact on games too. He had a fumble in the Steelers game last year, but he also caught a bomb from Leinart in the 4th quarter that nearly put us in field goal range on the first play of the drive. The catch allowed us to stuff the ball down the Steelers throat and getting us a two touchdown lead in the game.

Though when he fumbled 3 games in a row, I was very very angry.

Right now we're probably still being a little to hasty on our new judgment of Fitz. His career will measure between his highs and his lows.

For the record, when he retires in a decade or so, I'd like to see this thread bumped again, it provides prospective and refreshes what I've forgotten.

As a person who has advocated such crazy ideas as the benching of Kurt Warner this year and the acquisition of Craig Nall to be our QBOF, I've had my share of silly posts on this board. That's the inherent danger of having an opinion. If anyone wants to take the time and effort to remind someone of a wrong position, they generally don't need to go very far.

That being said I think that the lesson to be learned, is not that people have judgments that have later proved to be in error, but that there is a risk in going off the deep end on players involved in contract situations.

As for myself, I hope that Q works out his issues with the Cards, but if he doesn't, then life goes on. I just don't see the need for voluminous posts detailing every mistake or misplay that Q, or Fitz for that matter, has done over their career in order to justify the disappointment someone might feel over the strategies employed in their contract negotiations.

Jeff you just blew your sigy line though.

I agree and would like to add that, going off on the FO for things we think are wrong. We all think, including myself, that we know what's best for the team. Not the GM or the coaches, we are all smarter then they are. So I think its fun to bump these threads too.

I started this thread almost 1 year ago. I'll gladly admit that I was dead wrong on Fitzgerald. I do thinks its silly, however, to bump threads that happened a year ago just to show that someone was wrong. I'd venture to say that everyone who has expressed an opinion from time to time has been wrong.

I'm elated that I whiffed on this thread! But I'll also take credit for saying in 2005 that Fitzgerald would end up breaking some of Jerry Rice's recieving records.

No doubt.

Look Boldin is my favorite player. But Fitzgerald has been more productive, and is getting harder, and harder and harder to cover each year. That is just that.

Guys are calling out Fitzgerald game by game last year? ARE F'N KIDDING ME?

Why don't you write up what Boldin did for us game by game ? Let's drag his name through the mud, and put him under the microscope.

Someone wanna say Fitz is making too much $$$ ? FINE.

Someone wanna say we should think about trading him ? FINE.

But dragging his name through the mud, questioning his heart, and down playing the guys AMAZING production is ridiculous and untrue.

Fitzgerald has played his butt off for this team through good and bad. He has played injured, he has looked to improve his game when he was doing fine just relying on ability, and he is a young talented reciever who is getting a bad rap in the press and on this board for reasons I cannot imagine.

It is getting pretty disgusting. IMO

The guy deserves some respect.

Bump d Bump

I wish I could take back the line about Boldin, cause it is happening right now and I am enjoying it about as much as I did when people trashing Fitzgerald.

Not really he was healthy all 16 games in year one and was nowhere near a PB level. In year 3 he played in 13 games. Yet still wasnt at a level Q had performed at in 12 game sthis year. So no he hasnet been PB caliber the whole time. But really who cares? He's a stud and hes our stud for at least 3 more years.
