HILTON – Section V’s high school softball playoffs promised quality pitching.

Through two-plus rounds, that’s precisely what we’ve seen.

One of Section V’s pitchers' duels pitted Lola Rivera and top-seeded Northstar Christian (15-2) against Mylee Miller and No. 4 Fillmore (13-5) in the Class D1 semifinals. This time, Miller and the defending Section V champs enjoyed the last proverbial laugh.

Miller tossed a five-hit, 14-strikeout shutout at Grace and Truth Park. That was enough to beat Rivera’s 16 strikeouts and three hits allowed in a matchup of standout juniors.
