:biglaugh: Classic.

Probably my favorite is DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince:

Your best friend Harry has a brother Larry
In five days from now he's gonna marry
He's hopin you can make it there if you can
'Cause in the ceremony you'll be the best man
You say "neato"... check your libido
And roll to the church in your new tuxedo
The bride walks down just to start the wedding
And there's one more girl you won't be getting
;)

*sigh* Try to make a running joke of KoC's mismatched artists/songs, and ya gotta go ahead and spoil it. Troutslap for you! :) :trout:

You were supposed to say "White Lines" by Run DMC. :p

TongueTwista- pick up some Do or Die, he's featured on their first album.

As far as speaking the truth without saying the "N" word or bagging on women: The immortal Chuck D, or Mista Chuck if you don't know what time it is.

Dr. Octagon is also pretty cool, and still underground after all these years.

I had a chance to meet The Alcoholics when I used to be a doorman, they're pretty cool.

Dr. Octagon is great - you listen to Kool Keith too?

I think Tribe Called Quest is probably my favorite as far as hip hop goes.

Rob Bass and Young MC kicked ass!

Today I listen to DMX, Jay Z, and whatever else they play on the hip-hop/rap station.

Hip hop is so terrible right now. It's so fabricated that none of this crap will stand the test of time. There's still some good artists making good music though, and who still care about the art. As for my personal faves, I love Jay-Z, Ghostface, Nas, Gangstarr, The Roots. It seems most of the best artists are 30+. The Def Jux cats and Kanye West are putting out good music too.

Okay, I love practically every genre..which definitely would include Soul music... I'm pretty much referring to the performers from the 60s (those on either Sun or Stax records)...

My favorites are more of the obvious ones...Sam & Dave, Otis Redding, Sam Cooke, Ray Charles, James Brown, Aretha Franklin, Booker T & The MGs, Lou Rawls, Percy Sledge..etc....

So..for those who enjoy this genre (primarily from the 60s-70s), who are your favorite Soul artists?

Wow someone else on ASFN is a soul fiend like me! I love almost anything Stax, and Volt. I'm a huge Dorothy Moore fan. Of Course Sam & Dave, Sam Cooke, Tyrone Davis. I just got into the Soul Children....WOW is all I can say. Check em out if you haven't already.

I have always loved Sam & Dave....Most just know them for only doing the original "Soul Man" and "Hold On, I'm Coming", but its overwhelming how many other songs of theirs got covered "Wrap It Up", "I Thank You", and "When Something Is Wrong With My Baby"..... I always enjoyed how the 2 of them would play each other off in their songs.....Their voices blended so well together as well....It's unfortunate how their careers/lives were cut too short... They had so many hits in a brief time.... Also, "You Don't Know Like I Know" was such a classic....

I havent checked-out Soul Children, but plan on doing so.....

I know he's not Soul, but we've discussed Hip-Hop before.... Have you heard Talib Kweli's latest cd.."The Beautiful Struggle"? If you havent... here's a link to check it out...

He's awesome.... Now if Mos Def finally releases a new studio album......

Edit: Wow...Just read that Mos Def is releasing a new c.d. on 10/19 titled "New Danger"....Cant wait....

What would you consider Curtis Mayfield. I love Curtis Mayfield.

Oran, you just named one of my all timers right there sir. Impressions or his solo stuff, hearing him sing is pure pleasure. Definitely soul music!

I must admit that I never heard of Common until you mentioned him, but I just started to check-out "Electric Circus" and I'm impressed with what Ive heard so far....

I love The Roots newest one, but not as much as 'Phrenology"......
