The NCHSAA and NCISAA baseball seasons have concluded after an exciting season highlighted by some of the biggest stars in the state.

Freedom Christian went out in the NCISAA 2A semifinals after putting together a 19-7 record in a third consecutive Sandhills Athletic Conference championship run.

In the NCHSAA, Terry Sanford fell in the fourth round of the 6A playoffs to eventual champions Southern Lee, just missing a third consecutive trip to the regional championship after a 19-8 year.

Many baseball stars stood out, including Terry Sanford's record-breaking shortstop Josh Mozingo and South View's Trey Ray who took home the Tri-County and Eastern Sandhills Conference Player of the Year awards.

As we get into postseason awards, here are some nominees to vote among for the Fans' Choice 910Preps Baseball Player of the Year award.

Voting is open until June 9.

910Preps Fans' Choice Baseball Player of the Year nominees:​


Eli Corney, Freedom Christian — Corney dominated the stat sheet in his junior campaign. The shortstop led the NCISAA 2A in slugging percentage with .896, and stolen bases (27). He also finished third in on-base percentage (.670), home runs (4), and ERA (1.46) while striking out 71 batters.

Corey Cox, Gray's Creek — Cox stood out tremendously as a freshman pitcher. He pitched a 2.36 ERA in 56 innings and struck out 69 batters.

Trace Fowler, Jack Britt — Fowler was consistent for the Buccaneers all season. He scored 21 runs and finished with a .328 batting average.

Hunter Hedgecoe, Terry Sanford — Hedgecoe showed himself as one of the best catchers in the area. He finished the season with a .941 fielding percentage, and also batted in 24 runs with a .310 batting average.

Jamaare Littlejohn, Village Christian — Littlejohn led his team in hits with 30, he also finished sixth in the NCISA 2A in RBIs with 28 on the season.

Jacob Moore, Terry Sanford — The Randolph-Macon football commit pitched a 2.26 ERA in his senior season and secured four wins. He struck out 73 batters and notched a no-hitter early in the season. Moore also batted .316 at the plate.

Josh Mozingo, Terry Sanford — Mozingo had a generational season, finishing first in NCHSAA history in hits with 176, and second in history in runs with 156. The ECU commit earned the Tri-County Conference Player of the Year after a successful year.

Nasir Nelson, Seventy-First — Nelson was a huge factor in the Falcons making their first playoffs in 25 seasons. The senior third baseman hit two home runs and stole 33 bases for No. 15 in the state. He also scored 29 runs and finished No. 1 in the 6A with a .641 on-base percentage.

Trey Ray, South View — Ray had a breakout sophomore season after scoring 32 runs, stealing 21 bases, 25 RBIs, and a .441 batting average.

Ellis Reed, Gray's Creek — Reed had a breakout sophomore season. He hit three home runs, scored 22 runs, had 24 hits, and 26 RBIs.

Brycen Talley, Cape Fear — Talley led the Colts and the Tri-County in home runs with four on the season. He also scored 27 runs and batted in 20 runs as well.

Landon Underwood, Cape Fear — Underwood batted .449 this season while also stealing 23 and scoring 30 runs for first team all-conference honors.

Mason Walker, Terry Sanford — Walker led the 6A class in RBIs with 36 on the season. He also finished with a .432 batting average, two home runs, and 26 runs scored.

Alonzo Webster, Freedom Christian — Webster scored 27 runs, had 21 RBIs, and a .358 batting average in his junior season.

Dalton Williams, Gray's Creek — The Lenoir Community College commit led the team in on-base percentage with a .537, while also securing 22 hits, 25 runs, and batting in 19 runs.
