Is Faneca saying something that is untrue? And all his agent said was that ARIZONA told him they couldn't because of Fitz... that sounds like a problem between the FO and Fitz, not Faneca and Fitz. These guys know it is a business. I highly doubt this would create a "tension".

The first rule of business in sports is "mind your own business"!

(Given that Faneca hasn't signed anywhere, his agent could have been more politic. "We have had some discussions with the Cards, but as we all know, they have some important contract issues to iron out. In the interest of my client, and given how free agency is progressing, we may sign somewhere else.")

Mountain out of a mole hill.... all he did was repeat why AZ told him they couldn't offer him a contract. He didn't say "They can't sign me because Fitz is greedy" or "The contract offer AZ made was fair, but that jerk turned it down". The guy stated a well known fact told to him by the front office. This is nothing.

Or, you could make a comment to send a message, as one star to another, that you want to be on their team, and you can make that happen.

“They would 100 percent be in this thing if Larry had redone his deal,” said Rick Smith, Faneca’s Chicago-based agent. “Larry is going to cost them Alan Faneca. It’s a fact.”

Well, if Fitz doesn't take the highlight portion personally, he's a better man than me.

(But, I spent a decade making a living in a team sport, and I've seen friction caused by less... and, as I said... the first rule to avoid problems in the room, and it's known by all, is - mind your own business.)

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO:mad::mad::mad:

I have never heard of an agent coming right out and saying something like this. I would be all for reelasing whatever scrubs it took to get this guy in here. I hope Graves is at least finding out what it would take.

Where are all the people saying Faneca wouldn't come here now?

:bang:This is absolute BS! Screw Fitz. Trade him now.

Again, what did he say? Is it not true Fitzgerald's contract is keeping AZ from signing Faneca? The truth is that if Fitz resigned and gets his money, he won't give a flying football what Faneca said about him and vice versa.

Well, if you can't fathom the meaning of the quote, so be it. As for future reprecussions; it leaves the impression that Fitz is personally responsible for Faneca not being here... and that is simply un-proven. He has the acquired right to negotiate a new deal, taking whatever time needed, and to turn down anything not precieved to be in his best interest.

Maybe if your name is put to it, you'll get a better understanding of how personal it is:

Alan Faneca's agent said Friday that Cardinal Chris' drawn-out contract talks with the Cardinals cost Arizona a chance to land Faneca, the well-regarded, free-agent offensive lineman. “They would 100 percent be in this thing if Cardinal Chris had redone his deal,” said Rick Smith, Faneca’s Chicago-based agent. “Cardinal Chris is going to cost them Alan Faneca. It’s a fact.”

This stuff will just continue to worsen until Graves is gone. I cant say for sure that we would bring in anyone better, but he most assuredly is not the right guy.

What meaning do I miss? His agent is saying that Fitz's cap number is keeping him from considering to play in AZ because they can't pay him. And guess what, THAT'S TRUE!!! Unproven? Are you saying that Fitz's cap number is NOT prohibiting Arizona from being able to offer Faneca a deal averaging around 8 million a year? I am not saying Fitzgerald is "responsible" and I don't think Faneca is either. He's saying Larry's cap number and the inablility to lower it (regardless of who's fault it is) is keeping Arizona from making a run at Faneca. Of course Larry has the right to sit and get paid. He has every right. But in doing so, the team cannot pursue Faneca. Regardless if you feel that is Larry being greedy or not, his cap # is keeping Arizona from being more active than they would be if that number is smaller.

Clever.... you get a thumbs up for that!!! But, I would argue that no, it wouldn't.... why? Because you better believe that I (and Larry) know what my contract is doing. And I also realize that it is true, so I have about 3-5 days before public opinion REALLY turns on me. Faneca is not Fitzgerald's biggest concern.... I would think it would be the fans and other 60 players who feel the same way, but know it is a business. The only way this arguement holds water is if Fitz is so dilusional that he really doesn't think that carrying his cap number hurts the team. He knows it does. He is just trying to strike a balance between getting what he deserves and hurting the team.

In law the the best defense against Slander and Libel is truth. I would be upset, but Faneca's agent is absolutley correct.

Fitzgerald told KTAR (620 AM) radio, “I want to be a consummate professional, a team guy. I don’t want to do anything to hurt the team.”

I now hate Larry Fitzgerald. No TD's will make me forget this bs.

SCREW YOU LARRY!!!

My issue wasn't the substance of the issue, merely that his agent could have found a more approriate way of dealing with it. Cheers!

Yeah, I can think of a dozen ways to say it without using Fitz's name. In my perfect fantasy world Fitz is close to being done (by many reports), he signs Monday, Faneca signs Tuesday...... but I am an optimist. Let's play along and say that happens. Both guys get their big payday and this would be a non-issue between them.

I have to say your response using my name has had me chuckling for 5 minutes now!!!

Amazing, we have a player hold out and cost us a premium free agent, and it's Rod Graves Fault.

Simply amazing the lengths that some fans will go to in order to

1. Make Fitz seem like he's innocent.

2. Make Graves seem like the root of all evil.

Wake up guys, our "golden boy," #11 is a selfish ass and that's why we aren't getting faneca. Yes, Graves made the contract, he also offered one that would put Fitz pay through the stratosphere while fixing the problem. Fitz is the one that wants more.

Thanks Fitz, I hope you choke on your bank roll. You better play out of this world in 08 cause you're going to have to single handedly counter the improvement of all our division rivals.

Do you even remotly understand this contract should have been done at least a year ago? Of course it is Graves fault. My god, the lack of accountability by fans and in the Bidwill family is one of the big reasons this franchise is inept.

There is enough blame to go around to both of them.

We were never going to offer 23 Mill gauranteed to Faneca. Never. I doubt we would even pay 15 Mill. Although Faneca may have given us a discount not an 8 Mill gauranteed discount thats for sure.

This whole thing is a whole lot of nothing. The Cards may have talked to Faneca's agent but we would not have reach their demands. Case in point - we can sign Faneca to the same exact deal as the Jets are offering (maybe slightly different structure but the same gauranteed) and still fit him under the cap including Fitz inflated contract.

To bash Graves or to bash Fitz for something that was never going to happen IMO isnt right in this case.

What the Cardinals don't seem to understand is that it takes leaders to win football games...when one is paying for an elite player like Faneca, one is paying for performance and leadership.

Who is the leader of this offensive line? Is it Deuce? A second year player?

Who are the real leaders on this team?

Boldin, yes.

Edge?

Warner?

Leinart?

Fitzgerald?

Dockett?

Dansby?

Wilson? He brings attitude, but he also screws up more than a player of his ability should.

This is a franchise is in dire need of leaders. It has some talent. Now it needs leadership.

Not only what Mitch said...... If Pace gets 20 million, why would we not pay 23 million to a perrenial pro-bowler, First-Team All NFL Guard, & Future Hall of Famer?

If we aren't willing to pay that kind of money, then stadium or not, we are going to suck for another decade.

1. We are not keeping our core together as Graves has stated. We are losing good up and coming players because of consistent and dubious procrastination on our GM's Part.

2. We are not going out and filling the holes made by our procrastination because we refuse to pay "Market Value" for the talent that is out there. If we think things are going to get cheaper then Graves is on Crack. And if we continue to attack 2nd tier players then we will continue to be a 2nd tier team.

How can we not say that Faneca is not worth 23 million guaranteed when 3 other teams (2 in our division) so obviously think so? And Faneca's body of work in the NFL is MUCH greater than Fitz's. Especially taking into consideration what Fitz has done to our strategies this off-season.
