And put peanuts in Coca-Cola! That is a treat. My parent were both from the south so you know she made fried okra, and cornbread. Did you ever see anyone put cornbread in their milk? Yum
I grew up dumping a bag of peanuts into a tall bottle of Doctor Pepper...I mean, coke and Pepsi occasionally...but around my house in the early seventies it was all about the DoctorAnd put peanuts in Coca-Cola! That is a treat.
Are we talking "dipping" into milk or more like a bowl with cornbread and milk? I love cornbread in a bowl of chiliMy parent were both from the south so you know she made fried okra, and cornbread. Did you ever see anyone put cornbread in their milk? Yum

absolutely...gives it that nice crunchRolling the sliced okra in cornmeal, fried to a golden brown with salt and pepper is the best.
Some people roll it in flour but, IMO, cornmeal is far superior.

lmao...cornbread in buttermilk was first breakfast every day on the farm... slam that down, then while we were out doing the chores my aunt would cook up a legit breakfast..biscuits, gravy, sausges, fried eggs...maybe a few hotcakes...she made the best damn bacon gravy man...huge biscuits, two cut in half covered the entire plate so your gravy would drip over the side if you werent careful..huge bacon chunks...damn, i miss that old broad..she was the bestHeresy.
The cornbread is crumbled into a glass of buttermilk.
Now, chili over rice and cornbread on the side is good. I'd even take chili fries.
dropping a small bag of planters peanuts in a soda is an old tradition...the salt removes some of the fizz..doesnt make it completely flat but it flattens a bit...then the nuts soften up a little after they been soaking in the soda...peanuts soaked in soda are tastyThat's a new one for mean. Now my Dad would roast raw peanuts in the oven at Christmas as a tradition.

my aunt used to keep a special bottle of pure maple hidden...when she made up a huge stack of flapjacks, all the bigger kids would raid the kitchen and run off with the Mrs Buttersworths..so my aunt would coat my pancakes with a thick slather of homemade butter,...then pour on a heavy layer of maple..a special treat for her "Little Charlie", lolNow you are talking!
It reminds me of that scene in the movie "Twister" where they all chowed down after chasing a tornado.

I used to eat/drink corn bread and milk all the time, too. Love it. But, not butter milk. Can't stand that.My Dad put cornbread in his milk... actually buttermilk and maybe some salt and pepper? It was like dessert for him.
Sadly, I never tried it.
Im not a buttermilk fan these days either. But when I was a kid, buttered cornbread in ice cold buttermilk was an awesome snack/early breakfast... when the buttermilk was just made out on the porch last night it was even better.I used to eat/drink corn bread and milk all the time, too. Love it. But, not butter milk. Can't stand that.

still a little confused.......do you drink it or eat it with a spoon? I guess what confuses me is, I cannot imagine drinking milk/buttermilk with chunks of cornbread but eating it with a spoon makes more sense......grew up in phoenix, so this is something I have never heard ofA glass of milk with cornbread all crushed up and mixed in.
