2 point sneak eliminated. Not that it was used much, but it was always a possibility. Now its gone. Nit picky, but I dont like that aspect of it.

We'll love it when we win because of a missed extra point and hate it if we lose because of it.

love it. adds slightly more drama to extra point kicks and also likely ups the amount of 2 pt conversion attempts. more excitement.

Now if we can move the kickoff to where it used to be instead of the joke it is today....

I would have liked either leaving in the same, or eliminating PAT kicks completely.

Make teams have to score to score 1 additional point through throwing or running instead of a kick. More football, less kicking. :p

I would rather each team have the option of going for an uncontested extra point try from the 50, with a 1 pt penalty if they miss. They can refuse the bonus try altogether, or gamble on getting or losing the extra point.

Same with a two point conversion. They have the option to try for it or not. But lose 2 pts if they are not successful.

This gives each team after scoring the TD of either simply taking the 6 pts and kicking off. Get or lose an extra point by trying a kick from the 50. Or get of lose 2 extra points by running a play from the 2 yd line.

A team after scoring a TD could end up with either: 4, 5, 6, 7, or 8 points. This would add so much more excitement to the game and a ton of coaching decisions and strategy.

Just imagine as the 4th quarter progresses with an opposing team ahead by 6 or a tied game, the choices a coach would have to consider when they scored based on who he is playing and their strengths. It would do wonders for Monday morning QBs and second guessing every coach's decisions.

This would be REAL interesting if it were the case

This. .. I can't stand the extra point. Everyone should have to run a real play for more points

It will make the game more interesting. Also glad we play in a dome stadium. Teams playing in outdoor cold weather stadiums will be at a slight disadvantage in the winter months.

Me too, they just keep tampering with the game, its like they just can't leave it alone.

We are probably the only fans in the league who are excited during extra points because we block so many. outside of that, they are a waste of time because of being automatic. This will make them slightly less automatic. I am for it.

I think this stinks. More teams now will go for 2 point conversion which is exciting but now the risk of injury to one of your defenders has just increased.

Watering down the value of a TD will probably lead to more conservative decisions and field goal kicking when 2 field goals (6 points) would = a TD (6 points)

95% success rate on kicks from 15 yard line. Teams will still attempt the kick probably 98-99% of the time. Maybe one additional missed PAT per team per season than previously.

I don't think this changes game strategy much at all.

So should we just change it to flag football to avoid injuries?

More 2 point conversions = more exciting football. Excitement is why I watch, I do not watch to see if no one gets injured.

I think the success rate is more like 97%+ when you take out kicks taken from the left or right hash and only count those take from the center of the field, which I am assuming is where extra points will be kicked.

Agree with this. I think they should've narrowed the goal posts, or perhaps even installed an upper crossbar to make the target smaller for extra point kicks. That would reduce the near-certainty of the 1-point conversion and increase the willingness of coaches to go for 2 and (much more interestingly) fake the kick and go for 2.

I think it would be a good idea to narrow the goal posts and reduce the success rate of field goals too, particularly very long ones, at which kickers have become ever more proficient over the years. But if there's a desire to leave field goals alone and only impact extra points, the upper crossbar (only in effect for extra points) would be a way to do that, while leaving the spot of the ball at the 2.

Not likely ever to happen, though.

They should integrate the game and have only women be the kickers on every team. Better yet, have the opposing coach pick one of the scoring team's cheerleaders to kick the extra point.

The New Orleans Saints missed the playoffs once because they missed the extra point to tie a game at the end of the season to send it into overtime. It's rare, but missed extra points do happen, and they can certainly matter. Punt snaps are almost 100 percent automatic, but they get muffed on very rare occasions. Should we just allow the punter to have the ball automatically to punt every time?

Here's an interesting graph from fivethirtyeight.com on the success rate of extra points over the years. One thing that I forgot is that this isn't the first change they've made to change extra point distances. The first change was made back in the early 70's when they moved the goal post to the back of the end zone.
