The Jacksonville Jaguars jumped out to an early lead and never looked back in their 48–20 win over the New York Jets.
Jacksonville opened the scoring with a 9-play, 72-yard drive that took 4:42 off the clock, capped when Trevor Lawrence hit Brian Thomas Jr. on a 4-yard touchdown pass to take a 7-0 lead.
The Jaguars struck again later in the quarter after a short field, as Lawrence finished a 5-play, 38-yard drive with a 15-yard rushing touchdown, giving Jacksonville a 14–0 advantage.
The Jets responded before the end of the quarter, putting together an 8-play, 65-yard drive that ended with Brady Cook throwing a 9-yard touchdown pass to Adonai Mitchell, trimming the deficit to 14–7.
However, Jacksonville regained full control early in the second quarter. On the opening drive, Lawrence led a quick 5-play, 55-yard march, finishing it with a 16-yard touchdown pass to Bhayshul Tuten.
The Jets answered with their best sustained drive of the half, moving 41 yards on 9 plays, but the possession stalled, and Nick Folk converted a 41-yard field goal to make it 21–10.
The Jaguars added to their lead late in the half with a 10-play, 45-yard drive that resulted in a 33-yard Cam Little field goal.
Jacksonville then delivered a decisive blow just before halftime, as Lawrence engineered a rapid 5-play, 47-yard drive in only 46 seconds and found Travis Etienne Jr. for a 20-yard touchdown pass with 21 seconds remaining, sending the Jaguars into the locker room up 31–10.
However, after the half, the Jets refused to go quietly, opening the third quarter with an 8-play, 32-yard drive that was capped by Folk’s 51-yard field goal, trimming the Jaguars’ lead to 31–13 and snapping the Jaguars’ string of touchdowns.
But Jacksonville quickly regained momentum.
On their ensuing possession, the Jaguars drove 7 plays for 72 yards, with Trevor Lawrence finding Travis Etienne Jr. on an 8-yard touchdown pass, extending the lead to 38–13.
Jacksonville wasn’t done in the quarter: after forcing another Jets punt, they engineered a 7-play, 38-yard march that resulted in Cam Little’s 22-yard field goal, pushing the score to 41–13.
In the fourth quarter, the Jets put together a 5-play, 65-yard drive and got Isaiah Davis’ 24-yard rushing touchdown, cutting the deficit to 41–20 and injecting some life into the home crowd.
But Jacksonville answered almost instantly. On the very next drive, the Jaguars struck quickly, covering 45 yards on just 2 plays in 28 seconds when Lawrence connected with Etienne Jr. on a 45-yard touchdown pass at 13:40 of the fourth quarter, sealing the game’s scoring and boosting the Jaguars to a 48–20 victory.
The Jaguars improve to 10-4 on the season, and continue to gain momentum as the postseason nears.
