The training camp dates for the Jacksonville Jaguars are set — rookies will report on July 25, and veterans will take the field on July 28.

Training camp signifies that the new season is around the corner. The practice intensity increases as teams can play with contact in pads during the sessions.

It’s also an opportunity for the players to show what they worked on throughout the break from OTAs. Quarterback Trevor Lawrence, who’s fully healthy this offseason, said he’s using the time off to stay in shape and sharpen the little details.

“For me, footwork, strength, getting in shape, and coming back ready to go in training camp so we can pick up where we left off,” Lawrence said. “I think that’s the biggest thing, not having to feel like you take a little bit of a step back from OTAs to training camp.”

Jacksonville had promising OTAs. Lawrence and wide receiver Brian Thomas Jr. revived the deep passing game; the coaching staff is leaning into running back Bhayshul Tuten’s skill set after he is faster than the 40-yard dash time he recorded in last year’s scouting combine.

The rookies are hitting the field first, and it should be a crucial three-day head start over their seniors. Jacksonville drafted 10 players, a balance of offense and defense, and added more undrafted free agents to its roster.

As the season is around the corner, the competition from OTAs carries over and turns up a notch. It’s where wide receiver CJ Williams can display his mastery of the playbook, tight ends Nate Boerkircher and Tanner Koziol show their value in multiple tight end sets, and EDGEs Zach Durfee and Wesley Williams aid Jacksonville’s pass-rush attack.

The Jaguars veterans join up with the rookies on the third day. Some players are battling for starting reps in their position groups.

Tuten is competing against Chris Rodriguez Jr., Ameer Abdullah and LeQuint Allen Jr. Although the coaching staff is leaning into his strengths, he still needs to compete for the starter spot and fill the departed Travis Etienne Jr.’s shoes.

Coach Liam Coen highlighted that the depth has created competition across the team. Jacksonville may not have had an eventful offseason, but the organization prioritized depth, and it’s paid dividends during OTAs.

Jacksonville also has scheduled practices with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, New Orleans Saints and the Carolina Panthers in August. They will reunite with Etienne Jr. against the Saints and linebacker Devin Lloyd against the Panthers.
