Myles Garrett's move to Los Angeles could produce one of the most statistically rare seasons in NFL history, according to ESPN's Ben Solak.

In ESPN's 2026 season predictions, Solak projects Garrett will record at least 20 sacks for the second consecutive season, a feat accomplished by only one player since sacks became an official stat in 1982. Only three players have posted multiple 20-sack seasons when including Pro Football Reference's retroactive charting: Deacon Jones, who is the only one to do in consecutive seasons, Mark Gastineau and J.J. Watt.

Garrett was traded from Cleveland to the Los Angeles Rams this offseason after posting a 23-sack season with the Browns in 2025. Solak argues the move sets Garrett up for even more pass-rush opportunities than he had in Cleveland, pointing to the strength of the Rams' defensive line and the team's likelihood of playing with leads.

It's not just that the accompanying defensive linemen in Los Angeles (Kobie Turner, Byron Young) are stronger than those in Cleveland. It's also that Garrett will see more clear pass-rush downs with the Rams.

Solak backed up the projection with data, noting Garrett logged 448 pass-rush snaps last season but only 217 came on plays with at least an 80% probability of a pass, tied for 17th among defenders. By comparison, Jared Verse, whom Garrett is replacing on the Rams' defensive line, had 241 such snaps last season, sixth-most in the league.

Solak also cited Garrett's durability, noting he has missed just one game over the past five seasons, and downplayed concerns about new Rams defensive coordinator Chris Shula deploying Garrett differently than Cleveland's Jim Schwartz did.

Garrett, who turns 31 during the season, has never topped 16 sacks in a season outside of his 2025 total. Solak acknowledged the difficulty of the projection but said he sees little reason to expect a decline.

The Rams certainly want Garrett to continue his tremendous production in recent years as they look to make another Super Bowl run in the Matthew Stafford era.
