The Los Angeles Rams are taking a big swing once again this year, striking a blockbuster trade to acquire Myles Garrett from the Cleveland Brownsfor three draft picks and Jared Verse. It's not a move that comes without risk, but the Rams see incredible upside in the 30-year-old edge rusher.
And after looking through his stats and raw numbers, it's impossible not to be excited about this trade.
Garrett is off to a historically great start in his career, dominating year in and year out since being the No. 1 overall pick in 2017 out of Texas A&M. He racks up the sacks, applies constant pressure on opposing quarterbacks and plays the run equally great.
These nine crazy stats put his sheer talent and production into perspective.
Garrett generates a ton of pressure, but what he does better than everyone else is turn those pressures into sacks. He has 125.5 sacks in his career thus far, which is the second-most ever by a player in his first nine NFL seasons.
Additionally, his eight straight seasons with 10-plus sacks are the second-most in NFL history.
Only two players in the NFL have had at least 10 sacks and QB hits every year since 2021: Garrett and Micah Parsons. Coincidentally, both players have been traded in the last 12 months, and they've been two of the most dominant defenders in the last five years.
Garrett was on a mission to break the single-season sack record last year, recording a whopping 13 sacks in the four games from Week 8 to 12 alone. Incredibly, his 13 sacks in that span would've been good for the fifth-most of any player all season.
And compared to Jared Verse, Garrett had more sacks in those four games (13) than Verse has in his two-year career (12).
In only nine seasons, Verse has had at least 15 sacks in a third of them. His three seasons of 15-plus sacks rank third-most all time, behind only White (5) and J.J. Watt (4). White is in the Hall of Fame and Watt will someday join him as a first-ballot selection.
Garrett's only season without 10-plus sacks was in 2017 when he was a rookie and only played 11 games – and he still had seven sacks that year. His career sack average is 0.95 per game, which is the most of any player since 1982 with a minimum of 100 games played.
No one is even particularly close to Garrett, either; White is second with 0.85 sacks per game.
Since 2016, the Rams have had eight players with at least 10 sacks in a single season. Five of those were by Aaron Donald, too.
In only the last eight years, Garrett has eight such seasons, matching the Rams' total as a team in the last decade.
This shouldn't come as much of a surprise, but Garrett is No. 1 in the NFL in three of the most important stat categories for a defensive lineman since 2021: sacks (83), tackles for a loss (107) and QB hits (147).
Garrett also ranks second with 404 pressures and third with 13 forced fumbles, per TruMedia.
The 49ers finished last in the NFL with 20 sacks last season, getting absolutely no production from their pass rushers after Nick Bosa went down. By himself, Garrett had 23 sacks. That's three more than the entire 49ers defense, showing just how historic Garrett's season was in 2025.
Garrett is already a two-time Defensive Player of the Year, making him one of only nine multi-time winners of the award. Six players, including himself, have won it twice, and three have won it three times: Aaron Donald, Lawrence Taylor and J.J. Watt.
Garrett still has plenty of time to win it for a third time and cement his place in history alongside those three greats.

He had more sacks by himself than the 49ers last season
