Texas faces off against Ole Miss tomorrow night at 6 p.m. CT in Nashville. The Longhorns have found themselves firmly on the bubble heading into the final week before Selection Sunday. Following the loss to Oklahoma, the concern has been ratcheted up in Austin.

Championship Week is one of the most unpredictable weeks in the sports calendar. There are upsets, buzzer beaters and, worst of all for Texas, bid stealers. By the time we make it to Sunday morning and the bracket is being unveiled, there will be teams that sneak into the tournament by winning their conference tournament. Every time a bid-stealer enters the conversation, the Longhorns worries will continue to grow.

Currently, Texas sits as 69% chance to make the tournament, according to Bart Torvik. They sit as one of the “Last Four Byes” in Joe Lunardi’s “Bracketology”. They are in…right now. The question is: Does a loss to Ole Miss tomorrow knock Texas out of the dance? According to Joe Lunardi, it wouldn’t.

Asked ESPN bracketologist Joe Lunardi about where Texas MBB stands if they lose to Ole Miss in the first round of the SEC tournament...

Lunardi believes win or lose, the Longhorns are in

Now, as comforting as Joe Lunardi’s remarks are for Longhorn fans, they are no guarantee. In Championship Week, you have to take matters into your own hands and that starts with beating Ole Miss. Now, it is reasonable to think a win over the Rebels would be enough to lock themselves into tournament.

Knowing one win locks Texas in the field, the question now becomes: where could they climb to? If Texas beats Ole Miss, they’d face Georgia for the third time. Both home teams comfortably won the first two battles with a neutral site being the rubber match.

Win that and it’s Alabama, someone Texas beat this season in Tuscaloosa. Point being, the door is open for a run and climb in seeding if the Longhorns can bring their A-game to Nashville.

Texas will be the 10-seed in the #SEC tournament and will face off against Chris Beard and the Ole Miss Rebels in round one on Wednesday.

The first season of Sean Miller season has been an up-and-down season but one with many positive signs. Dailyn Swain has turned into a first-round NBA prospect. Matas Vokietatis shined throughout this season, with a bright future ahead. Jordan Pope, Chendall Weaver and Tramon Mark have put together strong seasons to finish their Longhorn careers.

The season will be incomplete without a trip to the tournament. Joe Lunardi says they are in regardless but a win tomorrow(and a possible SEC tournament run) could turn Texas from a true bubble team to firmly in and poised for a run. It starts against the Rebels in Nashville tomorrow night.
