The Minnesota Vikings want a new quarterback in 2026. Several veteran options have been thrown around, but Adam Schefter has two specifically in mind that make sense for the Vikings.

Appearing on The Pat McAfee Show on Tuesday, Schefter said that he believes Indianapolis Colts quarterback Daniel Jones, although intriguing, would be too pricey to attain. That mindset may force Minnesota to seek a cheaper option in free agency instead.

Schefter lists Geno Smith and Kyler Murray as the top two quarterback options for the Vikings this offseason.

I think they're looking at a veteran. The guys that I'm looking for, Kyler would be one option. Geno Smith, if the Raiders decide to release him, would be another option.

Daniel Jones, very pricey. I don't know if they can get it done, but in a perfect world, that would be a great option for the Vikings....

I don't know [that] the list is all that long, but clearly they're going to be adding to that quarterback room here in the next week or two.

Smith is coming off a rough 2025 season with the Las Vegas Raiders, where he went 2-13, completing 67.4% of his passes but also throwing only 19 touchdowns to 17 interceptions. He will be 36 in October, but could benefit from Kevin O'Connell's system.

Murray, meanwhile, suffered a foot injury that limited him to five games in 2025. He completed 68.3% of his passes, throwing six touchdowns and three interceptions. However, his recent injury history (ACL tear in 2022) raises concerns about whether he can return to the level that earned him Pro Bowl honors in 2020 and 2021. A change of scenery could be as vital as anything for Murray.

Of course, most free agent quarterback options come with some sort of baggage. That could still give the Vikings a chance to take advantage of some cost-effective deals to shore up a position that never had stability in 2025.
