An emotional Chris Lemonis said at his Coastal Carolina baseball introduction that a "tough year" away from coaching after getting fired by Mississippi State helped him reset.

Lemonis was hired as the Coastal Carolina coach on June 11, almost 14 months after he was fired by MSU. His public introduction was June 12.

“It’s been a little bit of a tough year in some ways. My first month was tough but it’s actually been a great year. It’s been a year of reset for me. It’s been a year of learning," he said, pausing.

"We had a blast. We traveled the world. I’m sorry I told you I get emotional. My damn players at Mississippi State will kill me right now. It’s about your friends and your family, and this feels like we’re coming home.”

Lemonis was the Bulldogs' coach for seven seasons and won the program's only national championship in 2021. He is replacing Kevin Schnall, who was hired as the South Carolina coach.

"I'll always be thankful for my time there," Lemonis said of Mississippi State. "It was awesome."

Lemonis is from Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, which is near Coastal Carolina, and also played and coached at The Citadel, located in Charleston.

Mississippi State hired Brian O'Connor as its new coach and made the program's first super regional since 2021.
