Effingham County senior Jordan Dillon, one of the top offensive lineman recruits in Georgia, announced his commitment to play at Georgia Tech in a social media post on Tuesday.
The 6-foot-4, 330-pound senior transferred to Effingham County for his senior season from Savannah Christian after a family move.
The highly-recruited 3-star prospect was visited by Georgia coach Kirby Smart in January, when a helicopter brought the UGA coach to Savannah Christian to talk with Dillon.
Dillon had 31 offers on the table, including North Carolina State, Virginia Tech and Auburn, before making his decision to stay in state after a recruiting trip to Atlanta last weekend.
"I like the Atlanta area and there are eight coaches on the Georgia Tech staff who are former offensive linemen — two that played in the NFL," Dillon said in a phone interview Wednesday. "Coach (head Georgia Tech coach Brent) Key is a former Tech lineman and he makes the position a priority — he treats it like it's his baby, so I think it will be a great program to help me grow as a player."
Dillon, an All-Greater Savannah and All-State first-team selection the last two seasons, has played left tackle in high school, but said he will make the move to an interior line position as a guard or center in college. He plans to major in marketing or sports management at Tech.
He said the relationship he has developed with Key and his coaching staff was behind his decision to stay close to home.
"I like everything about Tech and I've shut down my recruitment after making my commitment," Dillon said. "I cancelled upcoming trips I had planned at NC State and Virginia Tech."
Dillon said he is making the adjustment after transferring from Savannah Christian, a small private schoo,l to Effingham County, which will compete in Class 6A starting in the fall.
"It's a much bigger school and it's a lot different, but everything is going good and I'm looking forward to the season. My personal goals are to make All-State again and to get at least 70 pancake blocks," Dillon said. "And our team hasn't won a first-round playoff game in a while (since 2018), so I want to help change the culture and help us get to the second round of the playoffs."
Effingham County head coach John Ford said he has enjoyed getting to work with Dillon as he makes his transition to a new school and thinks Tech is the perfect spot for the 3-star lineman.
"He's a great player and an even better young man," Ford said. "I couldn't be happier that he's committed to Georgia Tech — I think it's the perfect fit. First and foremost, Jordan is going to fit in well with the way Coach Key likes to run things. Jordan is an alpha competitor and is so tough, and that mirrors everything that Coach Key is all about."
