Franklin County hosted the eight EIAC wresting teams for the annual conference tournament Saturday. East Central claimed the team title with point total of 214, edging the host Wildcats with 212.5 points.
Lawrenceburg finished third with 184 followed by Rushville 162, Greensburg 145, South Dearborn 139.5, Connersville 78 and Batesville 61.5.
Batesville’s Carson Weiler won the EIAC title at 120 with a 13-1 major decision against Rushville’s Briggs Tackett.
Batesville’s second individual champion came at 144 where Adam Brewer defeated Greensburg’s Carson Beagle 19-3 Tech Fall.
Rushville’s Sam Pavey won the 215 conference title with a 17-2 Tech Fall of Lawrenceburg’s Max Nelson. This makes Pavey a 3-time EIAC champion. His performance on the day also earned him EIAC MVP honors.
Rushville was competing without four varsity wrestlers, but the Lions were able to step up to the challenge and take fourth place in the conference.
“Everyone stepped up and we finished the day well, but after all of the wrestling was over Sam Pavey was announced as the EIAC MVP. This honor is voted on by all of the conference coaches. I have had the pleasure of coaching Sam for the past three and a half seasons. He is definitely well deserving of this honor,” Coach Jim Tush said.
