In addition to having the guts and creativity to trade up to the #1 spot to draft QB Carson Wentz in 2016, Howie Roseman, back from his exile during the Chip Kelly administration, this off-season and during the season Roseman went out and added WR Alshon Jeffery, DT Timmy Jernigan, DE Chris Long, CB Patrick Robinson, WR Torrey Smith, G Chance Warmack, RB LeGarrette Blount, RB Jay Ajayi...and QB Nick Foles.

With regard to Nick Foles, this is an amazing story.

Roseman had signed QB Chase Daniel in 2016 to a 3 year $21M contract with $12M guaranteed and $15M in escalators if he became the starter...that was when Sam Bradford was the starter...and then---before Roseman was able to swing the deal to trade up to #1 for Wentz.

So, the Eagles decide to start Wentz in 2016 as a rookie from the get-go---they traded Bradford to the Vikings---and they held on to Chase Daniel, to be the experienced backup.

This 2017 off-season, despite already having given Daniels $12M in guaranteed money on his 3 year deal, Roseman decided he would rather replace him with Nick Foles, who Roseman paid handsomely as a backup at 2/$14M. And in letting Daniel go, he eats $12M for one year of service from Daniel.

Man, Roseman must have felt the Eagles were in a special situation to pay this much for a backup and eat the $12M he already spent on Daniel. Smartly, knowing Carson Wentz's all-out style of play, Roseman must have felt he needed a backup QB who could keep the team winning in the event that Wentz got injured.

What extraordinary crystal-ball type prescience and planning on Roseman's part. Phenomenal, really. He now has a ring to show for it.

you can make those kinds of moves when you have a franchise QB on a rookie contract

As usual the Cardinals were held hostage by the former regime and picked up the wrong journeyman. Maybe the Eagles can work miracles with Gabbert and work to his strengths as their new back up after a trade with us. And tear it up playing on a better team.

Foles will now cost us plenty, but there are no better options and Fitz is waiting on a plan (QB) as well.

Seems like we always pay through the nose, but what did we expect - Watson or Maholmes to be ready to play!? Now they could be proactive and trade up this year for their QB. Wentz started year 1. But none of them seem to be ready to start game 1.

Case Keenum could and won't cost draft picks. But will he want to come here?

I hate the thought of giving up draft capital when there are pressing needs all over. Hopefully they are having a meeting of minds to work this stuff out and fix what's broke.
