One of the reasons Howie Roseman has become one of the NFL's most respected general managers is simple. He never stops looking for opportunities. That philosophy was on full display during the 2026 NFL Draft. The Philadelphia Eagles ultimately traded up from No. 23 to No. 20 to select wide receiver Makai Lemon.

At the time, the move appeared straightforward enough. Philadelphia identified a player it liked and jumped a few spots to secure him. Recently, however, released footage from the Carolina Panthers' draft room suggests Roseman may have had bigger ambitions.

A rare glimpse into Howie Roseman's draft strategy

We all love behind-the-scenes footage, and a clip of a conversation between Carolina general manager Dan Morgan and Roseman is making the rounds. In it, Roseman's side of the conversation wasn't audible, but it is stated that he is the one Morgan is speaking to.

The interaction offered an interesting look into the draft process. Morgan appeared to tell Roseman that Carolina was leaning toward keeping the 19th overall selection, though he remained interested in hearing what Philadelphia might be willing to offer.

Carolina ultimately stayed at 19 and selected Georgia OT Monroe Freeling.
