I could be wrong, but technically we are still in the 2024-2025 season. It’s not even the actual offseason yet. So there are contract considerations until the Finals are over.

That's the gist of it. They can make deals sooner, as we saw Denver do a few years back, but typically they wait until draft night to start announcing deals. Until the draft though it's usually a waiting game. The league seems to prefer it that way as well so nothing detracts from the playoff coverage also.

pg and book will never ever ever ever happen same with luka some ish just can never be undone

That whole thing seemed entirely on Paul George's end, being way up in his feelings for some reason, and I expect this last season humbled him immensely.

So we are supposedly going to try and trade KD before the draft. That's in two weeks. Almost everyone agrees that being under the second apron would give the Suns more options when trading KD. It could be done by waiving certain players. Why are we not seeing any transactions? Do they have to wait until after the Finals?

I bet you're right. Also, the trade deadline for "this season" has passed.

I believe that is incorrect.

The only teams that cannot make trades right now are the Pacers and Thunder, everyone else can wheel and deal. But I recall hearing something at some point that the NBA highly discourages anything that would distract from the finals.
I found this.

Per NBA.com, teams are free to make trades after their season has ended.

By NBA.com Staff:

When can teams begin trading again?

Teams will be free to make trades again after their season has ended.

Yes, they key word is highlighted.

We could have a deal agreed to already, or we could be playing teams against each other... or our new GM doesn't understand the rules and is using the NBA trade machine on ESPN in hopes that it's somehow official.

All are possibilities.

But legitimately, I think the deadline for a lot of option contracts is right before the draft, so that is probably a massive factor in stymieing any big money trade from being commenced.

And some surprise teams expected to be in the mix for Durant.

Kevin Durant and business partner, Rich Kleiman, are sorting through trade options per Shams Charania.

Not a fan of that. I can understand asking for a list of teams from him but the decision should be handled by the Suns to benefit the Suns and if it happens to benefit KD? Then good for him.

If there are a number of teams on the list, I'm likely okay with it. I don't want it to be like the Jimmy Butler trade last season.

Hopefully sorting through trades now will expedite it.

I agree I'm just concerned we'll send KD to where he wants to go instead of receiving the best package possible. That essentially rules out the San Antonio deal, unless the #2 pick is in play.

It will likely be a compromise situation. Too bad Durant couldn't have been traded to the Warriors last season, but we know how that went.
