The kicker of the “what Durant is really worth” argument right now is it’s going to be near impossible to tell what’s truth and what’s fiction because we have such a woefully unqualified GM/Owner pulling the trigger on the trade.

If the bounty back sucks, you’ll have the Durant Is The Devil crowd say “I told you he was near worthless!” while the Durant could still net us solid building blocks will be able to say “This is why having a novice GM is a disaster.”

The trade utterly ruined the franchise. There is no getting around it.

When grading the original trade, I don't think what we get back trading him off matters much. Even the most optimistic idea of a KD trade gives us parts that won't matter for many more years.

Never seen him play but Vassel doesn’t seem like much to me, looking at his stats. Mediocre 3P shooter, low efficiency FG%, doesn’t do anything interesting in terms of assists or rebounds. That’s a 30M contract?

So it sounds like the deal for Vassell +14 could have real legs. I would hope we might get something else besides that, possibly some future picks as well. If that's the best we can do, at least it's a start.

I really wish we would also be moving Booker for a stock of younger players plus picks, but it sounds like there's no chance of that now. We better hit it out of the park on ALL of the picks we currently have or else we are back to those Suns teams of 2015-2019 except without the benefit of having our own high picks.

The Suns really needed the expertise of a top, experienced NBA GM this summer to evaluate the situation and make the best moves possible. This is where Mat Ishbia needed to spend the money. Then, if the Suns had hired a young head coach like Ott, no one would have thought twice about it because they would know the GM was making the decisions. Now it's like rule by an ownership committee.

Because of the above, almost every move this offseason will be second guessed. I keep hoping there is a wizard behind the curtain pulling the strings that is competent.

Let's hope there is some competition in a trade for Durant, get the best deal possible and move on. The Suns could do worse than the trade with the Spurs, although I'm hoping they can do better.

In regard to Devin Booker, the Suns are lucky he wants to be here. Maybe he can be the cornerstone of the Suns rebuild. If not, the Suns are going to be hard to watch for a long time. Again, this is where the decision of a top GM would be respected, whether to keep Booker or not. Personally, I'd like to see Devin retire as a Sun.

And 14th pick I’m not sure what the plan is here but to add a newer rookie on top of Dunn and Oso just seems like we are trying to rebuild but not fully committed.

I've heard a third team discussed.

IMO, the most important thing is getting young talent and draft picks in return. If the Suns add talent, they will have talent to use or trade. What they can't afford is making more bad trades.

I'd like to keep something good around rather than see the Suns trade Booker for a bag of corn chips.

All rumors I've seen have just the #14 pick headed to the Suns in a KD deal. That alone isn't enough. We'd need a 3rd team to take on Vassell for more picks.

I could be wrong, but technically we are still in the 2024-2025 season. It’s not even the actual offseason yet. So there are contract considerations until the Finals are over.
