Some interesting things I found in this past week's USA Today Sports Weekly:

They had our 1st round pick, WR Bryant Johnson, going to Philadelphia at #30.
"Why? Good luck trying to get inside coach Andy Reid's head, but he should still be looking for a No. 1 receiver who could make quarterback Donovan McNabb a complete threat. Johnson was a productive college player and has local ties."

They had our 3rd round pick, LB Gerald Hayes, going to Minnesota EARLY in Rd 2 at the 8th spot.
"Why? No great pick for the vikings, but Hayes is the best playmaker at a position where the Vikings are horribly thin."

On their rating of Best After-the-Catch Receivers, #1 was Andre Johnson, #2 was Anquan Boldin.
"His 13 receiving TDs last year were second-best in Seminoles history."

--------------------

On their list of the top 64 players in the draft, our guys finished accordingly:

34. Gerald Hayes
"Explosive athlete who tracks the ball with ferocious intensity. First Panthers defender to record three consecutive 100-tackle seasons since all-america linebacker Jerry Oslavsky (1986-88). Pros believe he can play inside or outside linebacker."

48. Calvin Pace
"Full throttle all the time, from the weight room to practice field to games. His 54 career stops for a loss set a school record. Dominant as a 3-4 end in college, but pros view him as a strong-side end."

49. Bryant Johnson
"Uses size and strength to overcome lack of speed. Not considered a major deep threat, but parlays quickness, size, positioning, jumping and hand strength to be a legit go-to receiver."

Anquan Boldin was not in their top 64.

--------------------

Position by position:

Bryant Johnson, 5th ranked among WRs
Anquan Boldin, 10th ranked among WRs

Gerald Hayes, 2nd ranked among ILBs

Calvin Pace, 8th ranked among DEs

--------------------

I'm just trying to shed some light that maybe our draft wasn't so shabby after all, even with that debacle of a trade.

And of course these rankings are subjective.

The Cards obviously thought that Pace was a top 4 end.
