Pittsburgh Steelers QB Aaron Rodgers’ explosive ESPN appearance on the Pat McAfee show has led to a strong response from Dr. Anthony Fauci’s lawyer.
The prime of the COVID-19 pandemic is over half-a-decade behind the world now, but the fractures in social discourse from that traumatic time remain.
Sports stars like Aaron Rodgers embraced controversial stances such as doubting the vaccine advocated by the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, Dr. Anthony Fauci.
Rodgers criticising Dr. Fauci again in 2026 has ruffled some feathers.
Aaron Rodgers told to stick to football by Anthony Fauci’s lawyer
After Rodgers’ recent appearance on ESPN’s ‘The Pat McAfee Show,’ where he called Dr. Fauci a ‘coward,’ David Schertler, the doctor’s attorney, responded with a simple but blunt message.
“Aaron Rodgers doesn’t know what he’s talking about. He should stick to football.”
Rodgers heavily criticised Fauci during the pandemic and issued his new comments after Fauci testified before the US Senate on July 29 and repeatedly invoked his right to avoid self-incrimination, or ‘pleading the fifth.’
“I’m going to plead the Fifth. Like that absolute coward, Tony Fauci. Absolute coward. Are you kidding me? You got a pardon, and you pleaded over 100 times [at the hearing]? What are you scared of, Tony? I thought you were the science. I thought, ‘I am science,’ and you get up there, and you can’t answer a question? What are we doing?”

Fauci served in his role as director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases from 1984 to 2022 while also serving as the Chief Medical Advisor to the President from 2021 to 2022 under Joe Biden.
Fauci’s responses to the COVID-19 pandemic have been a hot-button issue for years, especially under Donald Trump’s administration.
President Biden handed Fauci a pre-emptive Presidential pardon for any offences between 2014 and January 2025, protecting him from any politically-motivated prosecutions after he exited office.
