Simply reporting what Shams Charania had to say about it. He is pretty reliable.
So is the history of recovery times from ACL tears, especially those that happen iate in a season.

Even if Kyrie were healthy, I don't think they trade the pick, I don't think they even entertain the notion of trading it. Flagg is one of the most touted prospects in the last decade, probably 2nd only to Wemby. He was the best player in college as a freshman, he scrimmaged against Team USA before the Olympics and those guys raved about him. The dude looks like Luka with a work ethic.

Furthermore, there is no chance in hell they trade it for Durant. No one is giving up a #1 pick for a 37 year old, no matter how stupid the GM is.

A KD to Dallas deal would likely be centered around Lively and future picks but the Mavs don’t have the salary to match unless Klay is coming back in the trade. He’s got 3 years left on his deal which nobody wants.

Disagree. Despite his tender age flagg enters the league pretty nba ready. And with established stars like AD and kyrie (depending upon his healthy return) Flagg doesn’t have to bear the burden of a typical #1 overall pick. He absolutely could be good enough as a rookie to be the third best player on a championship team AND give the Mavs their future.

Neither Kyrie nor AD are #1’s on a title team and it’s a coinflip that both will be healthy.

The only Flagg trade that makes sense is for Giannis because he’s still a top-5 player. I could see him starting to decline within 2-3 years given his reliance on athleticism.

It would be an ensemble type champion like the old pistons team. No superstar but good to very very good players across the entire team. If healthy that team is ridiculously deep.

Yeah but all those guys were tough and durable OG’s with leadership. Kyrie and AD are superstars but they’re brittle and goofy.

dallas isn't trading the first pick for a 37 year old max contract that wants a 2 year extension when they're already paying kyrie and ad - why are we even talking about this
Agreed. Some people live in fantasy land. The only player that pick might get traded for is Giannis.

They’re also more talented than those tough leaders.

I’ve just learned over the years that there’s no one way to build a champion. You acquire talent and depth - which the Mavs have done - and then hope for health.

Though kyrie and AD have ridden LeBron an alpha leadership to championships, they have both won championships. And that means something in a lockerroom.

They just gave up a generational talent for mr glass, so its still possible.

Maybe a 3 way, KD to mavs, Giannis to suns, Flagg to Bucks. Thats wishing.

Maybe the Celtics ship off Tatum for Flagg, Mavs owner PO fans more to enable move to LV.

Perhaps but I would have said there was zero chance that Dallas would make that Luka trade and look what happened. In the end, Flagg will likely be a Mav, same with AD and Kyrie but it wouldn't shock me to see them involved in another big trade.

I believe they're one more trade away. You don't trade Luka to win now and stop when you have a #1 pick fall in your lap.

What happens will also put the theory to the test regarding alienating their fan base to move the team also. I'd be surprised if the NBA allowed them to move straight up but I could see some series of events where the Mavericks ownership is able to move to Las Vegas but Dallas is granted an expansion team immediately. The league wants a team in Dallas and may find a better ownership group in Texas to take over in Dallas vs a transient town like Las Vegas.

yes - luka was traded to the lakers - it doesn't mean the mavs want kd - this whole "well the mavs are stupid enough" logic doesn't fly - it's not happening

I have no idea if the Mavs want KD, wasn't my point at all. I do not believe they'll trade the pick, AD or Kyrie. I just don't think anyone can say no way in hell, we've already seen how enticing hell can be. If, for whatever reason, they feel pressed to try and win one right away, a KD trade might make sense. GA would make even more sense but the cost of acquiring Giannis might be more than they can handle and still fill out the roster.

Trading for Lively would be a good get for us, but I don't see why the Mavs would do it. How do they afford to pay KD, AD, and Kyrie? Plus fill out the roster. This is exactly the hole we're in with the big 3. We have 3 max players. One of their max players is already out likely for all if not most of next season. KD is also someone that has missed the season with an injury. AD is an injury risk always. To me the Flagg thing gave them a sort of rebirth, they have legit youth core with Flagg, Washington, Lively, Christie, Gafford around an older trio of AD/Kyrie/Klay. They should try to sign a young guard with the MLE instead of trading for Durant. Or they should move Gafford for a younger PG to add to their younger core. That will really balance out their team with older players and youth. As much as hate as Nico has gotten, I think he's a better GM than people give him credit for.

On our end I think our best hope is still Houston for KD.
