I don't think there's any chance they trade the pick. I can't see their GM wanting to take any more heat after all he got for the Doncic deal... unless that really was part of a grand conspiracy and he knows that whatever the fans think doesn't really matter.

The only potential thing that may change that is if Giannis is available in a trade. Then the Mavs might bite at it.

lmao the mavs aren't trading for kd - that's hilarious tho - not to mention kd never allowing it

It would have been beyond ridiculous to say the Mavericks would trade Luka at this time last year.

KD to Dallas does make sense. He's good friends with Kyrie and has played alongside Klay. Both Mavericks. Durant doesn't have a no trade clause so he doesn't have to allow anything. The GM who acquiesced to his demands is out also. So do you have any basis to claim why he'd even try to kill a deal to Dallas?

I think the pick is as good as gone. I'd be surprised if whoever is taken at #1 plays for Dallas. Maybe they make the selection since Flagg is the consensus #1 but I'd be surprised if Flagg ends up playing for Dallas next season.

I have no clue how they'd feel about it but I think Durant for pick(s) and contracts makes a lot of sense for them. Kyrie and AD are both injury prone but that would be a very workable big 3 with a 2 year window or so for titles. Long term it could make them look foolish but with the age of their key players, a win now approach makes sense.

Are you guys all ignoring that Kyrie is already out all of next season? They can easily have a mediocre season where Flagg gets his feet under him and then is ready to really contribute with a healthy Kyrie/AD. They’re not a team in a rush because of Kyrie’s injury so I doubt they go for KD’d who’s NBA bio-clock is ticking.

Maybe for Giannis they dangle that first pick but I’d be stunned if they did for KD.

Trying to understand what Dallas would or wouldn't do is difficult since they seem all in on the now based on the Luka deal. As long as Nico is their GM, who knows what they'll do but I definitely wouldn't rule out the possibility.

Oh, I didn't realize that. And yeah, that probably changes things for them. I believe they'd prefer to go all in right away to put an end to the Luka debacle but I don't see them competing for a title without Kyrie.

dallas isn't trading the first pick for a 37 year old max contract that wants a 2 year extension when they're already paying kyrie and ad - why are we even talking about this

I previously mentioned, Kyrie Irving is expected back in January 2026 and is expected to play a good chunk of the upcoming season.

See below tweet from Shams Charania.

The hosts were talking about this earlier on ESPN Radio. If moving Luka for AD was all about winning right now, then Flagg really doesn't help them much since he is only 18 years old. He'll only be 19 by the time AD and Irving return. If they want to keep the timeline as Nico saw it, they might look to trade the pick for an older veteran player, the hosts suggested. That or draft Flagg and build around him with other younger players and wait some time to be contenders again.
Disagree. Despite his tender age flagg enters the league pretty nba ready. And with established stars like AD and kyrie (depending upon his healthy return) Flagg doesn’t have to bear the burden of a typical #1 overall pick. He absolutely could be good enough as a rookie to be the third best player on a championship team AND give the Mavs their future.

im wondering if our trade partner has yet to reveal themselves - someone we haven't even thunk of because minnesota is doing just fine - houston seems more interested in our draft picks - spurs maybe?

Maybe look at teams that didn't do as well as they hoped in the playoffs?

Houston needs a scorer that doesn't wilt. They don't have one. Harden isn't getting any younger.
Warriors - how long will Curry be out?
OKC - if they don't beat Denver, do they panic?
Cleveland - best record, out in the second round.

I think Denver is more likely to make a move than OKC.

I'd scratch the Warriors entirely since they got Jimmy Buckets and KD made it known he doesn't want to return as well. The rest make sense.

They are not trading, Kyrie is going to be out most of next year anyway and flagg looks like he can contribute right away.

Yeah… I don’t see it. The Mavs can now have their cake and eat it too, thinking they already built a contender when Kyrie is healthy AND they can build for the future with Flagg also.

I think it would be stupid to trade away that pick but I also know that GMs can make stupid decisions. And if they feel pressure to win it all right away, trading that pick for an established star might make sense to them.

That ain’t happening. And even if it does, it will still take him until the following season before he’s actually back to being the same guy.

Simply reporting what Shams Charania had to say about it. He is pretty reliable.
