Does Jaylen Brown Want Out From Celtics After Head-Scratching Comments? originally appeared on NESN. Add NESN as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
Jaylen Brown made several puzzling remarks in the days following the Boston Celtics' Game 7 loss to the Philadelphia 76ers. In addition to calling out the referees and Joel Embiid, he also called this season the "favorite year" of his career, strangely overlooking the Celtics' 2024 title run where he won both Eastern Conference Finals MVP and NBA Finals MVP.
Brown's comments have sparked considerable backlash from fans and media, including Bill Simmons, who thinks they're Brown's way of implying that he's ready to leave Boston and Jayson Tatum and lead his own team. A
"I didn't really fully think until that Twitch stream that this is kind of what Jaylen wants," Simmons said on Tuesday's episode of "The Bill Simmons Podcast." "I want them to stay together, but maybe this is just how the league goes."
Nick Wright agreed. Brown's a smart, thoughtful guy, so he wouldn't say something like that without thinking through it first.

"The year where my running mate was out with a torn Achilles and we flamed out with a 3-1 lead in round one, best year ever. That ain't gonna go over well," Wright said. "None of it made any sense!"
Simmons thinks it's Brown's way of signaling he's done sharing a team with Tatum and wants to move on.
"My takeaway after that is he's probably okay with moving on," Simmons added. "The way the season ended, there's no way that could be your most fun year."
Brown still has three years remaining on his supermax extension, but perhaps he's ready for a change of scenery. He's already spent a decade in Boston and might be tired of playing in Tatum's shadow.
Brown's name has been floated in trade rumors before, and some fans want to see the Celtics trade him this summer after their postseason collapse, especially with Giannis Antetokounmpo potentially on the table. Time will tell if Brown gets moved this offseason or ultimately stays put.
