Going into the Freeway Series opener on Friday at Angel Stadium, the Los Angeles Dodgers had lost seven consecutive games against the Los Angeles Angels. But even after scratching starting pitcher Blake Snell and placing him back on the injured list, the Dodgers managed to overcome the Halos with a 6-0 victory.
“Couldn’t beat these guys last year, couldn’t beat the Brewers last year [in the regular season],” Dodgers manager Dave Roberts told reporters after the game, per the Los Angeles Times. “So it was nice to beat these guys.”
Three home runs powered the Dodgers’ win over the Angels.
Center fielder Andy Pages hit a three-run home run to put the Dodgers on the board and end his own 0-for-13 slump. Then, third baseman Max Muncy hit his 12th home run of the season to make the score 4-0 in the fourth inning.

Left fielder Teoscar Hernández brought in the final two runs of the night with a home run in the sixth inning. It was his first home run since April 15 against the New York Mets.
Without Snell available to start the game, the Dodgers turned to Will Klein to open the game. Klein led the team with two innings, striking out two batters and giving up one hit.
Relievers Edgardo Henriquez, Blake Treinen, Wyatt Mills, Kyle Hurt, Alex Vesia, Jack Dreyer and Charlie Barnes each pitched one inning after Klein and held the Angels scoreless for the entire game. Only Vesia gave up a hit but recorded a team-leading three strikeouts during his outing.
The Dodgers will be back at Angel Stadium on Saturday night for the second game of the series.
