Here is a report on Rosa.
Carlos Rosa, RHP, Kansas City Royals
Bats: R Throws: R HT: 6-1 WT: 185 DOB: September 21, 1984

On the surface, Carlos Rosa had a disappointing season at Triple-A Omaha, but his FIP at 3.44 was more than a full run lower than his ERA, indicating that some bad luck and/or poor support was involved. He had one bad month, with a 10.43 ERA in May, but the rest of the season he was quite effective. There's certainly nothing wrong with his stuff, including a 90-96 MPH fastball, a decent slider, and a better changeup than most relievers offer. He had trouble staying healthy when used as a starter, but adapted well to the bullpen role last year. Rosa was sharp in the second half for Omaha (3.51 ERA, 31/8 K/BB in his last 26 innings). I think he'll be a solid reliever, with the potential to be a closer if he can sharpen his command a bit more. Grade B-.

If Byrnes wants to make a statement to the bullpen he would DFA Howry tomorrow and bring in Rosa. Howry would more than likely clear waivers and could be optioned to AAA and try to work things out. Doubtful, but I am hopeful.

Diamondbacks acquire Carlos Rosa. This guy can't be as bad as Howry.

Rosa was ranked #7 on the Royals top 30 prospects in Baseball America's 2008 Handbook (However, Billy Buckner was #4). He moved to the bullpen full time in 2009 while with Triple-A Omaha with mixed results (2-8 with a 4.56 ERA). This year he has gotten off to a better start at Omaha going 2-1 with an ERA of 3.65.

The 2008 BA Handbook claims Rosa has a good fastball (93-95 mph) and also throws a decent curveball and change.

In the trade, the Royals receive Reynaldo Navarro, a slick fielding SS who struggles at times at the plate, but who still has a ton of potential to grown into(He turns 21 on December 22nd).

Here’s to hoping Rosa doesn’t catch whatever is afflicting the bullpen.
