The Detroit Lions made another roster move following Wednesday’s training camp practice, placing offensive lineman Giovanni Manu on the active/non-football injury list.

Detroit announced the transaction after the team completed its opening camp session in Allen Park. The Lions did not immediately reveal what Manu is dealing with or provide a timetable for his return.

Manu Temporarily Sidelined

Players on the active/NFI list can be activated at any point once they pass a physical and receive medical clearance.

The designation does not automatically mean Manu will miss any regular-season games. It does prevent him from practicing until the Lions remove him from the list.

Manu joins Christian Mahogany among Detroit offensive linemen who have opened camp on active/NFI.

Important Camp for Former Fourth-Round Pick

Detroit selected Manu in the fourth round of the 2024 NFL Draft after he played at the University of British Columbia.

At 6-foot-7 and approximately 350 pounds, Manu remains one of the most physically intriguing players on the roster. His size and athletic potential have kept him in Detroit’s long-term plans, but he still needs meaningful practice reps to continue developing.

Manu appeared in four games during the 2025 season and made one start.

Any extended absence would be frustrating for a player entering a critical stage of his development. The Lions are still evaluating whether Manu can become a dependable tackle or versatile reserve along the offensive line.

Bottom Line

Giovanni Manu will temporarily step away from practice after being placed on the active/non-football injury list.

Detroit can activate him at any time, so there is no reason for major concern without additional information. The key question is how quickly Manu can return and resume competing for a role on the Lions’ offensive line.
