I was watching Entertainment tonight or Access Hollywood, I can't tell the difference any more....

They said that it appears that HBO will not renew the show for the 4th season and the show will complete after this year. They have already completed shooting the 3rd season so it will end like Carnivale with no fanfare.

I could never get into the second season because the dialog is difficult to follow.

Anyone else hear about this?

That does suck.
It's one of my favorite shows.

They have to let them wrap it up! I LOVE Deadwood! Who's gonna watch HBO series when they keep dropping them like this?

Yep. Sucks big time. Deadwood is the best show on television.

Guess they need the extra money to pay for Rome. Which probably will be cancelled after Season 2 as well.

really sucks - i think I like this show more than the sopranos - one of my favs and it deserves an ending - if they know they aren't going to bring it back, let them shoot like 3 extra episodes to tie it all up

Yeah, this really sucks. This is why I stopped watching sitcoms years ago. They come and go way to quickly. I really hate to start watching something, just to see it get cancelled.

Deadwood Lives with Four-Hour Finale
Source: Variety
June 5, 2006

Variety reports that HBO and Deadwood creator-executive producer David Milch have agreed to produce a pair of two-hour specials that will serve as the show's series finale.

While Milch's grisly Western had been presumed a goner last month after HBO announced it would not be renewing options on the large cast, HBO said Sunday that the series and its fans would get closure in what amounts to a four-hour event.

HBO will have to renegotiate new deals -- now for a pair of two-hours as opposed to a full season -- with all of the players. Although no one is locked into continuing with Deadwood, an HBO representative said the network was confident in reaching all the deals necessary to proceed with the show in its new incarnation.

No decisions had been made about a production start date or a premiere date.

It's becoming HBO's MO. They release a great show and then cancel it almost immediately. Their problem is they take these huge risks and make these really expensive shows, and regardless of they are a hit, they cancel them--usually abruptly. I kind of wonder if it will start to affect their viewership. I know it's definitely making me rethink my subscription.

Me, too. You probably watch more movies than I do on HBO, Chaplin. I order it just for Sopranos, Deadwood, Six Feet Under, Big Love, etc. I am pretty pissed about this and Carnivale. They ended Carnivale with a regular season finale that craeted more questions than it answered. I am starting to put HBO up there with my hatred for ABC that does similar cancelling of new series.

They still have the best shows on TV though...even if they get short run. I am totally addicted to Big Love. I love Rome. Sopranos. Entourage. Curb.

I will watch any new HBO show because it will probably be good.

Interestingly, I've just watched the first ep of Deadwood...I liked it and am renting the rest.

HBO shows are great. Their movies are lacking...I think Starz runs the best movies overall, but I don't buy that channel. Only HBO.

And Showtime, if they end up picking up Arrested Development.

The only ep of Carnivale I saw had a guy going down on the bearded lady...creeped me out. The show was interesting, but I never watched another.

I guess they decided not to do the 2, 2 hour finales after all?

Lame.

Just finished watching the 3rd season. Wow.

Before I go to spoilers, I'll report what I've heard. A friend of a friend of Timothy Olyphant (sp?) says he hasn't been contacted about it yet, but he'd be up for it. That's depressing, that it isn't even in the works yet.

***SPOILER***

I hate the way it ended, with the bad guy getting away, but I always knew he'd get away. After all, George Hearst had to live to become famous and have his son, William Randolph Hearst, right?

I can't wait for the movies. Even though I know a little of the history, it'd be interesting to see how the election results affect the town.

LOL

I'm not surprised...each season of Deadwood was progressively worse than the previous in my opinion. It really jumped the shark for us about 5 episodes into season 3. Haven't seen an episoce since.

It was a once great show...I'll probably catch us up with rentals through Bloackbuster online.
