Diamondbacks still considering moving Ketel Marte
PHOENIX — The Arizona Diamondbacks haven’t ruled out trading All-Star second baseman Ketel Marte this offseason, a move that could signal a major shift in the team’s roster.
Poverty franchise though? :ducks:No reason to do so. You aren't going to get back value for him that will equal what is lost. 90% of Marte is better than 100% of any alternative.
LOL… you guys just won’t be satisfied until Torey is no longer wearing a Dbacks uniform.Because apparently middling 50/50 managers don't grow on trees, but perennial all star 2nd baseman who hit for average and power, do.
Or, we won't be satisfied until the organization actually puts a serious priority on winning, long-term. Torey has proven he can manage less to be more....and manage more to be less. That doesn't translate to long-term success...just long-term middling along and occasionally achieving short-term success.LOL… you guys just won’t be satisfied until Torey is no longer wearing a Dbacks uniform.![]()
I assume they trade Marte for a 3 or 4 to 1 deal
Ehhh... long-term winning... Like the Dodgers, or the Yankees? I mean, not sure what you're expectation is regarding what this team can legit commit to in terms of team payroll, but I think it's quite self-evident the Dbacks will never, ever sniff the salary levels of those types of franchises. Teams like the Mets, Cubs, Padres, Giants, Red Sox... routinely spend well above the Dbacks and wouldn't be considered consistent winners.Or, we won't be satisfied until the organization actually puts a serious priority on winning, long-term. I'd be curious to see how many of these contract extensions actually finish out in a D-Backs uniform. Not having the same financial resources as other teams, they would be more likely to trade to acquire talent at other positions given our farm isn't the greatest.Ehhh... long-term winning... It's hard for me to take you guys seriously after this season, when ownership did commit to a payroll that pushed the upper limits in the history of this franchise... yet, experienced an historic level of injuries. Again, we aren't the Dodgers who have the financial backing to create level of depth that can withstand injuries to key players.
Still, I'm a realist... and I can easily say that if this team craps the bed next season, Torey will be removed.
Will that equate to a level of winning above & beyond that which Torey produced? Time will tell... however, I'm confident in suggesting unless ownership drastically increases team payroll, I wouldn't expect much, if any in the way of more W's.
And FWIW, the team did commit, long-term to players such as:
- Perdomo: 4 more years
- Marte: 5 more years
- Carroll: 5 more years
- E-Rod: 3 more years
- Pfaadt: 6 more years
We'll see what they do with Ryne Nelson and maybe Moreno...I'd be surprised if they don't do a deal with Beeks. Same with McCann...
Very valid concern... though, to be fair, most MLB teams are prone to unload a player on a long-term deal prior to the full conclusion of a contract, and/or choose to go the Goldy way and not re-sign the player.I'd be curious to see how many of these contract extensions actually finish out in a D-Backs uniform.
