I have thought about this more and I think the upcoming lock out just plays a major role here. There is a strong chance you are just adding a year to Marte's contract when he is already 32.

It's cheap for the production, which is why you can trade for it, but he isn't playing 2b in 4 years

Gunna be hard to get much for him when we're being so public about it.

Is the plan to move Lawlar to 2nd?

They’ve been working Lawler out in centerfield.

I think some of it will depend on whether they are able to sign a third basemen. Blaze has earned at least a shot at full-time playing time whether that’s left field third base or second.
