The 2026 football season will be the second for sophomore offensive lineman David Sanders Jr. at Tennessee.
The Vols will open fall training camp on Wednesday. Ahead of fall camp kicking off, Tennessee head coach Josh Heupel discussed the development of Sanders Jr.
"Extremely comfortable at the left tackle position," Heupel said. "Played that earlier in his career for a long time. He got a lot of play last year on the right side, and the transition for him has been really natural. He's a guy that took advantage of the offseason, made great gains physically, just mass to his frame, super explosive.
"I expect him to continue to grow. It's a really young player. He should be getting better every rep, every day."
The 6-foot-6, 310-pound offensive lineman appeared in nine games, including six starts, as a freshman in 2025. All six starts were at right tackle and he totaled 480 offensive snaps.
Tennessee will open its 2026 football season on Sept. 5 versus Furman at Neyland Stadium (3:30 p.m. EDT, SEC Network+). The Vols are ranked No. 18 in the preseason US LBM Coaches Poll.
