The Boston Red Sox have made a habit of getting off to slow starts recently, and this year has been no different.
The Red Sox have dropped three in a row since their Opening Day win over the Cincinnati Reds, falling to last place in the AL East. They've already suffered two one-run losses and have struggled to hit with runners in scoring position, making them frustrating to watch.
Barstool Sports founder and Boston sports fan Dave Portnoy is already fed up with them based on his X post after Sunday's 3-2 loss on Sunday.
"I decided that I was gonna bet the Red Sox 162 games this season. I don’t think I can do it. Too infuriating," Portnoy wrote on X.
Portnoy is a massive sports bettor, so it's surprising to see him think about giving up on Boston so early in the season. After all, he was high on them a few weeks ago, predicting Roman Anthony for AL MVP after his dominant World Baseball Classic.
The Red Sox still have plenty of time to win Portnoy and their fans back, but their start has been disappointing after their big offseason and how well their players performed during the WBC. Their new stars have not played as hoped, and a tough road schedule against two playoff contenders to start the year hasn't helped.
Portnoy makes a living off hot takes and is not known for his patience, but perhaps he will change his tune if Boston gets hot and turns things around. But for now, he hasn't liked what he's seen so far.
