Dave Portnoy Keeps Crashing Out Over Red Sox's 'Miserable' Start originally appeared on NESN. Add NESN as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy is a huge Boston sports fan and a big sports bettor, so he decided to combine his two passions by betting on and watching every game of the Boston Red Sox's 2026 season.
Unfortunately for Portnoy, it's not paying off so far.
The Red Sox are off to one of their worst starts in franchise history, posting an MLB-worst 2-7 record through their first nine games despite being favored in eight of them. Portnoy's been betting big on Boston to win every game, so he's already down a lot of money so far.
And based on how often he's been rage-tweeting about the Red Sox on X this season every time they lose, he's not handling their slow start well.
I never anticipated being a 162’er would be so miserable.

"I never anticipated being a 162’er would be so miserable," Portnoy posted on X following Sunday's 8-6 loss to the San Diego Padres.
People say baseball season is a marathon, but it's really one long rollercoaster ride full of ups and downs. Boston has started the year on a cold streak, but it should get hot and turn things around eventually, according to Craig Breslow.
Portnoy may not have the patience, the stomach or the funds for it, however, if the Red Sox don't start playing better soon. Most of their games have been frustratingly close losses, with five of their seven defeats coming by just one or two runs.
Some of those games should start going in Boston's favor soon. However, Portnoy's right that the team hasn't been fun to watch so far given its struggles at the plate, on the mound and in the field.
