Barstool Sports founder and Massachusetts native Dave Portnoy is a huge Boston sports fan. And when it comes to sports betting, he's not afraid to put his money where his mouth is.

He's been impressed by Boston Red Sox outfielder Roman Anthony, who's dominated the World Baseball Classic over the last few weeks. After Anthony's game-winning home run against the Dominican Republic in Sunday's semifinal game, Portnoy made a bold prediction for the 21-year-old star.

"That is my pick. That is my future right now. This Roman Anthony, he is a monster," Portnoy said on Monday morning's episode of "Wake Up Barstool." "I would put him...MVP this year. He's that good."

Portnoy continued to praise Anthony, who finished third in the AL Rookie of the Year race last season despite only playing half the season.

"This guy, he has the goods. He doesn't swing at bad pitches, contact, power, he has it all," Portnoy added. "Roman Anthony, American League MVP."

Anthony has the ninth-best AL MVP odds on FanDuel Sportsbook at +2000 as of Tuesday morning.

Mookie Betts was the last Red Sox player to win AL MVP, doing so in 2018. If Anthony does win this year in his age-22 season, he'd become the youngest player in franchise history to do so, surpassing 23-year-old Fred Lynn in 1975.

Anthony has yet to play a full season in the big leagues, but he certainly has MVP potential if he stays healthy this year and keeps hitting like he has in the tournament.
