PEKIN, Ill. (WMBD/WYZZ) — D.A. Points spent a few days at home this week.

He’ll spend the rest of his life as a University of Illinois Athletics Hall of Fame member.

Points, a former state champion golfer at Pekin High School, will be inducted into the Illinois Athletics Hall of Fame in September. He was an Illini All-American in 1999 before launching a pro golf career where he won three times on the PGA Tour.

“I never imagined that was in the cards for me,” said Points in Pekin this week. “I’m so grateful and I have a really cool class I’m going in with. Some guys won’t have any idea who I am, but I know who they all are because I am such a big fan.”

Points played host to the ninth annual Renewal by Andersen Junior Open on the American Junior Golf Association circuit. The 54-hole tournament was played on his home golf course, Pekin Country Club.

Points will be joined in the 2026 Illinois Athletics Hall of Fame class by former national player of the year Ayo Dosunmu (basketball), two-time Olympian Jordyn Poulter (volleyball), NCAA-record holder Howard Griffith (football), long-time NFL wide receiver Brandon Lloyd, former soccer star Ella Masar, Illini career basketball rebounding leader James Augustine and former women’s basketball star Tauja Catching. The Hall of Fame ceremony is scheduled for Sept. 11 at State Farm Center.
